American People: Go Gonzo Go! Away

Please go away Gonzo, so says an LATimes poll of the American People:

Most Americans believe Atty. Gen. Alberto R. Gonzales should resign because of the controversy over his office's firing of federal prosecutors, and a big majority want White House aides to testify under oath about the issue, the Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg Poll has found. The survey, conducted Thursday through Monday, found that 53% said Gonzales should step down [36% say he should not]

Here's the reason why Gonzo will be gone after the 17th:

Senate and House Democratic leaders have asked White House aides to testify under oath about the firings, in part to answer questions about the roles of Gonzales and Karl Rove, President Bush's chief political strategist. Bush has rejected those requests, but the poll found that 74% of the public believes his aides, including Rove, should comply.

The string has been played and Rove matters more than Gonzo to Bush. To resist testifying, Bush will neeed to serve up Gonzo. Then the Media can start the wankery, saying "enough, no more witchhunts." Richard Cohen is already warming up for that.

To see if Shrub (HT to Molly, RIP) can't replace him without going before the Senate? I'm not talking about a recess appointment, just similar language to the USAs replacement language.

He would literally rather face a drawn-out impeachment proceeding.

Notice the disappearing e-mails. However bad Gonzo is, he's a shield covering something much worse.

From Bush's perspective, I think that is exactly the problem.  My prediction is that unless an actual indictment and/or impeachment is on the horizon that Gonzales will stay for the remaining months.

I want him dragging his lies, dragging his crooked cronies, dragging his emails and documents galore, dragging the bushco mess

I want him dragging all his crappolla up to the hill for the next 18 odd months.

It is my sense on the blog-o-sphere that people want gonzo gone in part to restore some kind of integrity and competence to the DOJ.

    Um, that ain't gonna happen.

The bushco fascists are not going to do anythign remotely close to nominating anyone with a shred of what most normal people consider integrity and competence.

they are going to nominate more of these blank slate 'lawyers', hacks and nutjobs from the Jesus-Will-Smite-Thee 'schools' AND

with a lightening rod like gonzo gone, AND

with our too many spineless Dems trying to avoid being an opposition,

the nutjobs will keep infesting our judicial system.

up for the Senate "exam"* was going so horribly, I expect The Gonz to show up looking like he pulled a two-weeker and pleading the fifth after he screams that Leahy's glazed donut is glaring at him with "extreme prejudice".

Asterisk: What kind of a repub is Gonzo? I didn't think they had to practice lying. It's utterly embarrassing.

    Impeach.

But I can't help wondering what percentage would have chosen the other obvious response, if it had been included:

    Impeach the lying SOB.

It would be far more entertaining for Alberto to hang tough, testify, under oath & generate more political theater than the Libby Trial.

And in that oddball Rovewellian approach to PR, the USA lame stream muddya will have GonzoGate to blather & drivel all over the place; THUS, effectively ignoring the occupation of Iraq.

Do not go gentle into that good night, Mr. Gonzales.  Distract the audience with yet another sideshow.

So, who's next to be keelhauled in public as the entertainment continues?

he should resign, because he's just not very ept? the u.s. atty. firings are merely the latest in a string of incompetence, on mr. gonzales' part.

with respect to such as richard cohen, the only person who actually cares what he thinks is, well..............richard cohen.
