Kumbaya!

What Matt said.

See also my vitriolic attack on SYFPism, quoting pach:

It's amazing to me to see how many commenters are personality/candidate partisans rather than progressive value partisans, independent of candidate affiliation. . . . The purpose of writing about this stuff is to make a public argument about the role of the US in foriegn policy, a discussion that is not really happening today. I happen to agree with Matt on all these fronts. This is what a progressive movement does: put pressure on the party and its high profile candidates to transform the conversation from one dominated by the Georgetown foreign policy elites.

    I Have Also Been Surprised By How (5.00 / 6) (#3)

many people participating on blogs are concentrating so heavily on a candidate's persona rather than on the issues. Also some of the complete devotion to a particular candidate I'm seeing comes much too close to Bush's devotee's belief that he is right no matter what he does.

While we do have a diverse field of candidates all with their own strengths and weaknesses, none of them are Gods (infallible) and should not be treated as such by any FP or their supporters. What bills they support, how they intend to solve problems and how they discuss Iraq and other issues is important and should be discussed and factored into our decision on who to support in the primary.

to get set on a candidate. Now is the time to listen and evaluate, form opinions ad donate seed $ to those you like. It is not time for most of us to try to shout down other candidates.
Personally they all have pluses and minuses both in personality, positions, ability to 'get things done', and electability.
Jury will be out for a long time.
And even so, there is still the possibility of Pelosi sitting in the catbird seat, which would change the landscape considerably, and whatever Gore may decide to do. So the field is not even set.

I'm not one of the Kewl Gang who's up on all the latest back-and-forth among various bloggers, because I'm actually not all that interested in Democratic intra-party politics, especially this far in advance of elections.

But I do want to understand what I read, so someone help me out here: What the hey does SYFP mean?
