Don Imus Apologizes Again

Embattled radio host Don Imus spent almost an hour of his show this morning (transcript here) apologizing again for his racist comments about the Rutgers women's basketball team.

As I facetiously suggested here, he's on the road to rehab. He's going to be on the Al Sharpton radio show this afternoon and meet with the Rutgers team.

Imus said he hoped to meet the Rutgers players and their parents and coaches, and he said he was grateful that he was scheduled to appear later Monday on a radio show hosted by the Rev. Al Sharpton, who has called for Imus to be fired over the remarks.

"It's not going to be easy, but I'm not looking for it to be easy," Imus said.

    Ok, Imus screwed up...he is trying to apologize...Al won't let him....enough already Al...if you are so hopped up to get Imus and anyone else fired who screws up with a "racial" comment, well then....your mission is clear and just.  JUST, make sure you get EVERYONE fired who makes a racial comment...like that commedian who gets the whole audience rolling on the floor with comments about that "cracker", "white boy", "whitey" or any other of the numerous slurs and comments used only to ridicule and humiliate those of that race.
    THIS WHOLE THING IS GETTING OUT OF HAND!  If Al goes after anyone for making racial comments, slurs or otherwise, then he has to go after EVERYONE.

    Highly payed clowns, that's all.

    Nah, it is still repulsive, disgusting and obsene. They all should be exiled and forced to do stand up as community service in the catatonic coma wards of nursing homes.

    I just listened to him for the first time from the C&L link in the other thread and Imus claims to be a commedian.  Funny that he doesn't seem funny and the above quotes are definitely not funny.

    is the typical ignoramous who thinks he is witty and knowledgeable. I listen to his program in the morning on MSNBC mainly because there is nothing of interest on the other chanels. I've even given up on Washington Journal. This latest issue is apparentlly more offensive than his other ignorant remarks because it was directed at a specific team. Usually he confines his jocularity to individual parties he has some disdain for. When he or his buddy "Bernie" go over the deep end I just hit the remote and switch to chanel 801 on my TV.(Directv) and listen to the big band music from the 30's/40's. I don't agree that Imus should be railroaded off the air. The free speech right is too important to start using it as a means to settling scores. I am really amused at the weasely apologies of Imus and his crew. They are,in my mind,more offensive than the ignorant remarks made.

    This is now about CBS, the owners of WFAN-AM, and NBC, his cable TV simulcasters.  
    Imus and his buddies are the racists they are, and probably always will be, but they are receiving the corporate imprimatur and the national stage from two of the three largest media networks, neither of which is willing to take responsibility for firing Imus.  They should be RACING to fire him to show that they are not in favor of racism and sexism, shouldn't they?  
    I'm not a woman or a person of color, but as a proud Rutgers alumnus, I feel like Imus attacked my family.  I'm not going to drop this at trueblueliberal.org or beatvisitor.com (a Rutgers football blog) until NBC and CBS pull the plug (of his microphone, not his respirator).

    If you listen to Howard Stern...which I do everyday...you know that he has repeatedly referred to Don Imus as a racist.

    Robin Quivers on his show says the Imus has used the N word to her face and has used it on other former co-workers @ NBC in the early 80's in front of both Howard and Robin.

    This seems to show a pattern here and it was not only Don Imus that made these remarks.   There was joking around by more then one person during that show and to foucs just on Imus is to ignore the fact that the whole show was on board with the comments he made.

    I heard it live on MSNBC and I must say I did a double take and can't believe there isn't more flack.

    I hope that on some level, Imus actually means the apologies.  That it isn't all just arse covering. That this outrageous incident and the pressure that has come with it will cause him to soul search his true feelings about race.  

    Understanding that you harbor racist feelings, and being ashamed of it, is a good start towards dealing with it.  Hopefully that's what will happen with him.

    As for us, forgiveness isn't the worst thing in the world to contemplate.

    Oh well, if Howard Stern says it...are you kidding??? The man is a total pig who treats woman like dirt and has never done anything for anyone but himself. If Howard says you're no good, you're probably a saint.

    Geesh. I am sick of whites talking about some double standard when the Imus mess is brought up. What about the double Standard in the court room? What about the double standard in the prison justice system and banking?

    It is so easy for whites to sit there and moan and complain. I wanna see one show in America where a black man sits on televison and says all day long "Ya know those are somre trailer trash white girls" "Ya know those are some po white Meth addict trash white hos"-and see how qucik people are to talk about free speech.

    Big deal..Imus called some testosterone enhanced girls nappy-headed ho's....this in no way is going to effect their lives.  I'll guarantee nobody but family and a few friends will ever remember who in the hell they are in the first place.  Get over it.
