Subpoenas Issued For Testimony, Emails in US Atty Firings

Karl Rove hasn't yet been served with a subpoena to testify about the role he played in the plot to fire U.S. Attorneys who didn't take politics into account when making prosecutorial decisions, but his former aide, Sara Taylor, has been subpoenaed. So has Harriet Miers. A separate subpoena directed the White House to turn over additional emails related to the firings by June 28.

White House spokesman Tony Fratto claims Congress "can easily obtain the facts they want without a confrontation by simply accepting our offer for documents and interview," but John Conyers' letter points out that "voluntary cooperation" has been a myth.

The precise role of White House officials [in the firings], however, has been kept a mystery. After an initial round of false statements to Congress on that subject - including written misstatements that the Department was forced to correct, and false testimony that remains uncorrected to this day - Justice Department witnesses have been unable or unwilling to shed any meaningful light on the basic facts regarding who at the White House played what role in selecting these U.S. Attorneys for replacement and why.

Will Rove be served with his own subpoena after the latest witnesses stonewall?

lying to congress about politics not being involved in USAs firings.

Lying to congress about not intending to bypass the the Senate confirmation process.

Using a political test for civil service jobs.

Using the office to help repubs get elected by violating their own rules regarding bringing charges during an election year.

That's just to start. The main problem is the DoJ and WH are obstructing the investigations. And BTW, it's bipartisan, not just dems.

that's a crime. Not to mention all the others pointed out.

ppj asked for crimes, we gave him crimes. He can't mentally deal with the actual topic so he makes a personal attack.

Well, since sailor just made somethings up about me
No I didn't. WTF personal attack are you making now?

Will someone tell me what crime has been committed?

No problem.  Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has told conflicting stories under oath, as have other DoJ employees.  For example he has said that Kyle Sampson made "the list" and presented it to him as a done deal, and then he has said that he should have involved Sampson in making "the list" because Sampson was not involved in doing so.

Since mutually exclusive stories cannot both be true, Gonzales lied to Congress, a federal crime.  Now the only thing left to do is to figure out which story is a lie, or if both are, and why Mr. Gonzales chose to lie in the first place.

This has been another elementary lesson in logic, and you are welcome.

To paraphrase Santayana, "Those who do not read transcripts are doomed to repeat GOP talking points."

And in the end, when it's all said and done, will the Democrats take this to the wall in order to get to the bottom of this whole affair?

Are they willing to go "all in" on this in order to compel testimony when it is painfully obvious that this administration is more than willing to thumb their noses and spit in their faces with regard to subpoenas?

I wish I could say that I have confidence that we will get anything other than a grand theatrical performance by the Democrats.

Once again, will we get all blow and no show from them?  They're going to have to be willing to wager some capital here in order to even have a shot at coming out of this with any credibility.

    jimakaPPJ,

Most of the dialogue above piddles around with the minutia, missing the primary crimes committed:

    1. A coordinated voter suppression operation.
    2. A long-range operation to insert corrupt people into the judiciary.

Listen to the June 9 Ring of Fire interview with Greg Palast:

I think we've got the goods on Rove this time.

Hmmmm pardon my memory, but I thought that one of the complaints about those removed was that they were acting too slow on voter suppresson cases.
It seems you are saying the opposite..

    Got hard news sources??

Ah yes. I understand that the conspirators to get the corrupt officals meet every Wedensday morning at  the Denny's on the corner of Paranoid Lane and Evil Repub Road...

No, that was (almost non-existent)voter fraud cases against dems. The vote suppression took place when the politicized DoJ used those spurious cases to suppress dem voters.

    Rove in coach (none / 0) (#13)

I took a flight from D.C. to Atlanta on Thursday, 6/14/07. After taking my seat I look to my left, and who do I see but Karl Rove in a middle seat in coach.  Maybe he hasn't been fired yet, but it looks like he's been dissed big time. Several of us on the plane took notice as he read magazine articles and tore out pages(probably shrub's reading list). There was no smell of sulfur. When the plane landed he turned on his infamous Blackberry and checked his messages.  What a dork.
