The Extremist In Joe Klein

In his podcast with Ana Marie Cox, Joe Klein said he does not believe the polls on Iraq. I believe him when he says that. He claims to be a Moderate on Iraq and in order to do that he must disbelieve the polls:

"In your opinion, should the United States withdraw troops from Iraq right away, or should the U.S. begin bringing troops home within the next year, or should troops stay in Iraq for as long as it takes to win the war?"
Withdraw Imm. -- Withdraw W/in Year -- Stay

%25 ------------------- 43 -----------------------26

Joe is with the 26%, as he makes clear in his wish list for the next Presidential agenda:

I haven't suggested things like "End the War in Iraq Now" because I don't know where the situation in Iraq will be in 2008.

Klein's views maybe correct on the merits. I think they are not. But one thing they are not is "moderate." Relative to the views of the American People, Klein's views on withdrawal from Iraq are clearly extreme. My point is if Klein wants to argue the merits, that's fine, but it is certainly time for him to stop accusing those who disagree with him on Iraq of being "extremists." Because it is he who stands with the extreme minority view on withdrawal from Iraq.

similar to the robber pointing in some other direction, and yelling "stop, thief!"

i might agree that klein's views are correct on the merits, except they aren't. in fact, klein has consistently shown himself to be an idiot. a well compensated idiot mind you, but an idiot nonetheless. it's nice to know there's still hope for me!

he's touting the bushco line: "those 90% who want us out are extremist views!" um, no guys, it's you, and the 10%, who're extremist.
