Who Was James Lee Witt And Why Does Rudy Get Away With "Misstatements?"

Rudy Giuliani said:

The truth? This:

. . . [A]n exhaustively detailed account from his mayoral archive, revised after the events to account for last-minute changes on scheduled stops, does exist for the period of Sept. 17 to Dec. 16, 2001. It shows he was there for a total of 29 hours in those three months, often for short periods or to visit locations adjacent to the rubble. In that same period, many rescue and recovery workers put in daily 12-hour shifts.

Rudy Giuliani has trouble with the truth. When will the Media notice? As for James Lee Witt, remember this?

After catching some flak for misstatements during last week's first-of-three presidential debates, Democratic candidate Al Gore said Tuesday he would do his best to "get all the details right" in his second televised encounter with Republican George W. Bush.

In an interview with CNN's Jonathan Karl, the vice president also said he would control his sighing, which drew considerable commentary after the first debate. Gore sighed frequently and loudly, as if exasperated, while the Texas governor spoke during their debate on the Boston campus of the University of Massachusetts.

"Less sighing in this debate," Gore said.
. . . In the course of last week's contest between the two major party candidates, Gore said he accompanied the director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on a tour of areas affected by wildfires in Texas in 1998. In fact, Gore attended a Houston meeting with a regional FEMA director about the wildfires, but never accompanied Witt on a tour of the area.

"It was not a willful mistake, but it was a mistake," Gore said of his original statement, adding that he has gone on many similar tours with Witt.

The Media is a carnival of incompetence. Stupid, ill informed, lazy, and beaten down by the Right. Are they hopeless? Yes.

that our #1 problem in DC is that Congressional Democrats read too much of their own trade press. They say Washington is Hollywood for ugly people, and I think the analogy works here too.

Or maybe it's due to A's personal arm-twisting-on-behalf-of-Dodd tour of Iowa.  Iowa IS in the states ...

An important element in the media's incompetence is a conflict of interest. Many major figures in the media make money on the talk circuit; this money is mainly Republican.

Another element is social. The DC media parties and dines with the Republicans; they aren't going to bad mouth the barman.
