Hillary Update

Hillary and Bill are still staying at the same hotel as me and Jane. While we were out at dinner last night, they were here -- they did photos with the New Year's revelers and use the main entrance (not the kitchen as Bill did in '99)

Here's a tidbit of trivia for you: Secret Service regulations say the President can't stay higher than the level to which the fire department's tallest hook and ladder reaches. At our hotel it reaches to the 10th floor. So the presidential suite is lower than the top floor of the hotel.

Hillary's staffers are doing a karaoke tonight at a sports bar connected to a bowling alley. I'm told it's the best bowling alley in town. The press is invited.

Most of the Democratic candidates are out of Des Moines doing their final rounds but will back here by Thursday and the parties are all in Des Moines Thursday night.

If We're Still Allowed to Be Critical of Clinton.. (none / 0) (#1)

    ...here.

Excuse me if I injected dose of reality into the Hillary Clinton lovefest that Talk Left has devolved into.

Obama supporters seem to think Obama can sit down and negotiate with the GOP. This is magical thinking. I am not sure Obama supporters should be lecturing anyone on reality.

I see a big difference between negotiating and caving in.

I believe Hillary Clinton made her decision on the Iraqi invasion based not on the evidence or that she honestly believed it was the right thing to do, but specifically based on the politics of the day, which said to every Democrat capitulate or you will be marginalized.  She did the wrong thing for the wrong reason.  She allowed herself to be intimidated by the Bush of ministrations, and we see the results all around the world today.

And it amuses me that you and others like Armando feel the need to try and dismiss my criticism of Hillary Clinton simply because I'm an Obama supporter.  As everyone here knows, I announced my affiliation months ago. Yet no one seems to will call Armando anymore on his disingenuous assertions that he is objective, or that even more laughably he is a weak Obama supporter.  He's not still making that assertion is he?

I think it's sad what talk left has devolved into, it was once a really good blog, but since the election started I'm sure that you've noticed many people have been driven away, and many of the regulars no longer comment.  Only the rabid and apparently irrational Obama haters seem to be the only ones currently welcome around here.

    Very, sad.

seems pretty obvious the "love fest" for Hillary Clinton is confined to the posts of the creator and principal author.

P.S.  No comma needed between "very" and "sad."

here. But that is beside the point.

I am not the impressed with Obama. I think his supporters engage in magical thinking. Its hard to say whether Obama would have voted differently on  Iraq, than HRC. He's not really stuck his neck out on Iraq since coming to the senate. Where is his vote on defunding? What I have observed from Obama strikes me as the same as any other pol. You didn't address the whom will he negotiate with question, so I assume you recognize that is a weakness of his "new" 3rd way.

I am also amused that Obama supporters assume you are a HRC supporter if you don't support Obama. I am on record here and on Mydd has an Edwards supporter.

    That Muslim Smear

Then I asked her what her friends and neighbors are saying about the other candidates. She said there was a lot of debate and indecision, and that people have concerns about each candidates' particular weaknesses. Specifically, she said some people are "worried" about Obama's race, and whether it might make him unelectable. She continued:

"That, and the fact that he's a Muslim," she said, without a trace of irony or guile. "That's where we got all our problems from."

"Do you really believe it's a fact that he's a Muslim?" I asked. "Because it's not true."

"Well, that's what I've heard," she replied, seemingly unfazed.

I'm so glad that the candidate I support Barack Obama has come out and said that we don't want to win this way.  I wonder how Clinton supporters feel about having to resort to these kind of tactics.  I wonder what other ugly depraved depths they will be willing to plumb in their quest for power.
