Michigan Primary Results

Update: Fox and MSNBC calls Michigan for Romney and Clinton.

You can follow the live results here. (Update: That site crashed, you can get them here now.)

7 in 10 appeared to vote Republican.

It looks like Mitt Romney will win the Republican vote. Turnout was low, maybe 20%.

Update [2008-1-15 20:24:9 by Big Tent Democrat]: Another result to watch is how Hillary does against "uncommitted" where Obama and Edwards sending their supporters.

Update (TL): Fox News just said exit polls show the race is too close to call between Hillary and the uncommitted. I'm not surprised, it's a protest vote by supporters of Obama and Edwards who withdrew from being on the ballot.

Update (TL): Now they say Hillary is winning 2:1 over uncommitteds and Romney's lead is slight.

This primary reflects nothing.  Shouldn't even count.  Throw it out.  Until enough people want to show up and vote, you don't get a government.  Pathetic.

My main man Ron beat Thompson too...gives me hope that at least some people can smell the b.s. from the so-called "contenders", and are looking for substance and real change.

and 27 counties will have machine errors so that a hand count will be necessary.

The County Clerk from Washtenaw County, Larry Kestenbaum, made a note of this last night:

One vendor's error in programming will cause Election Night headaches in about 27 counties.

According to the state Bureau of Elections, due to an error in ballot programming, Uncommitted and Write-in votes will be counted together in many counties. In order to untangle the mess, they will have to do hand counts.  In most cases, the precincts won't close and the results won't be reported until the hand counts are done.

All Michigan jurisdictions use optical scan paper ballots, so hand counts are always an option.

48% of young voters went with "uncommitted" as did the 34-44 age group.

    It's a delegate race.

Michigan GOP issued a press release congratulating McCain on his win.

To the extent the Mich. Dem primary is any story at all, the Clinton 55% - Uncommitted 40% is being played  in the media as a disappointment for her

    Which is amazing (none / 0) (#13)
by BDB on Wed Jan 16, 2008 at 12:12:24 PM EST
because before the primary I read many folks claiming that it would be a loss for her if she didn't get 50%.  The media love moving the goalposts for Democrats.  So apparently Clinton's candidacy is like the Senate, you need 60 to get anything done, more than 50 just isn't enough.

Meanwhile, just as several people declared John McCain the winner in Iowa even though he didn't win, I heard folks talking about how good Mitt Romeny's win was for Guiliani.  Guiliani!  The candidate who really did narrowly beat uncommitted in a contested race.
