The Media Darlings: NYTimes Ridiculously Equates McCain and Obama On Youth Appeal

Ok, here is the new worst alleged news article of the campaign:

McCain And Obama Share Little But Appeal To Youth

In the Republican ranks, Mr. McCain, 71, is a curious bookend to Mr. Obama. He is the oldest candidate in either party. Yet he draws hundreds of young people at some events. Mr. McCain drew many hundreds when he spoke at Dartmouth, a number exceeded only by the 2,000 students who showed up for Mr. Obama.

Are you freaking kidding me? Obama just rewrote the book on the youth vote in Iowa where McCain got stomped; Obama is leading by incredible margins among young voters and McCain is leading not at all.

This article is simply a lie to puff up the Media Darling John McCain. Yet again the New York Times proves that its political coverage is simply execrable. And that John MCain is a Media Darling. Obama has some strong competition on that front from McCain. But NOT in appealing to young voters.

for why youth are coming out in the "many hundreds":

Mr. McCain's persona as a war hero who rarely minds his lip scores well on campuses in New Hampshire.

Yep.  Kids today love war heroes with loose lips.

Then again, I never quite understood YAF or anyone much under the age of 50 being a conservative. It just seems so unnatural, like supporting torture.

    Oh, wait, never mind...

As for the establishment media getting it so wrong so awfully so often, it's all about clubbiness, not reality. I.e. about the desire to be in the Kool Kidz insider's club, and the fear of being excluded from it. The former calls for all manner of club-approved idiocy, while the latter precludes any deviation from it, no matter how reality-based. Sure, there are other causes, but this is near or at the top, at least wrt political coverage (policy coverage is a whole other brand of BS).

Now scuze me while I cue up my dusty old copy of Barbara Ann...

not exactly the home of progressive NH politics. It doesn't surprise me that 'hundreds' turned out for McCain. What the heck else is for them to do, except ski, maybe.

Hillary had incredible crowds in Nashua, ridiculously long lines of very enthusiastic younger people two days ago. I think the estimate was 1500.

They have a narrative: they speak to the narrative.

Journalism is dead. Long live journalism.
