Don't Forget the Volunteers

With all the talk about the polls, the media and the campaign strategists, there's one group who may be more responsible for the votes in Iowa and New Hampshire than all of them -- the volunteers who were "in the field" as they say, going door to door and more, as part of the "GOTV" (get out the vote) effort.

Check out this diary by BdB over at MyDD. It's very well written, totally engrossing and provides another dimension to the election coverage. It's also extemely gracious. It ends with:

One final thing, all of the Edwards and Obama volunteers we met were incredibly nice to us, even after Clinton looked to be winning. I hope they found us nice back.

ourside blogs, my experience talking to all the people supporting various Democratic candidates has been very positive.

I am not a volunteer myself.

    Thanks, Jeralyn.

For those who have never volunteered on a campaign (this is my first), let me highly recommend it.  It's really a great way to get out and interact with voters.  Some of the things will warm your heart and some depress you (some people have really stupid reasons for voting for a particular candidate and that's not aimed at any one candidate, it seems universal), but it's all a great experience.

Mostly it's about trying to get Americans to vote and when that happens, I think we all win.  And by all, of course, I mean Democrats.  Heh.
