God is obviously unaware, or is too busy with other stuff - the playoffs maybe - to take decisive action to straighten this out.
Meanwhile, other godlettes are running amuck and measuring the drapes.

It is this pastor's job to make God realize that His reputation is on the line. If McCain were to lose, God would look like  a real chump.

Especially since it was revamped this year to make it even more clear you don't wear a uniform to protest or participate in political events?

    Remember Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin? (5.00 / 1) (#20)
by oldpro on Mon Oct 13, 2008 at 08:52:07 PM EST
    From the Dallas Baptist Standard:

Appearing in uniform during a speech at the Oregon church, Boykin said: "Why do they (radical Muslims) hate us? Why do they hate us so much? Ladies and gentlemen, the answer to that is because we're a Christian nation."

The British Telegraph News reports: Investigative reporters from the Los Angeles Times and NBC television have dug up two years' worth of incendiary comments from Gen. Boykin. He has repeatedly told Christian groups that President George W Bush was chosen by God to lead the global fight against Satan.

    He told one gathering:

"Why is this man in the White House? The majority of Americans did not vote for him. He's in the White House because God put him there for a time such as this."

General Boykin has repeatedly said that America 's enemy was

"a spiritual enemy ... called Satan." The enemy will only be defeated, according to General Boykin, "if we come against them in the name of Jesus."

Rather than fire Boykin to reassure Iraqi's that we aren't really fighting a holy war, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld said:

"There are a lot of things that are said by people that are their views," he said, "and that's the way we live. We are free people and that's the wonderful thing about our country, and I think for anyone to run around and think that can be managed or controlled is probably wrong."

A Pentagon investigation has concluded that a senior intelligence officer violated regulations by failing to make it clear that he was not acting in an official capacity when, in speaking at churches, he cast the war on terrorism in religious terms, a Defense Department official said.

    What did I say yesterday (none / 0) (#18)
by scribe on Mon Oct 13, 2008 at 08:49:16 PM EST
    about this?  Hmm?  Right here:

The core error in the theology which drives the McCain/Palin (McPain?) [campaign's] so-called Christianist supporters is that their belief system (in practice) has [re-]made god in man's image.

Their god is susceptible to flattery and bribery from/through offerings of all sorts.

Their god is not omniscient - because it takes lots and lots of petitionary prayer to tell their god what needs to happen.

Their god is not omnipotent - because the devil still exists and the outcome of the battle between good and evil is in doubt.

Their god is not omnipresent - because there are areas where his word has to be spread.

Their god's followers, well, they're at least a little arrogant, because they know what god has to do for them and the followers aren't shy about telling him.

I could go on, but you get the idea. The McPain god is a 98 pound weakling who doesn't know what is going on and needs to be told what to do, when, how, and how much. And could lose at any moment.

And, FWIW, McCain has bought into this error lock, stock and barrel - remember the question about what he would do about evil, which was put to him by the megachurch pastor at the joint Obama/McCain megachurch presentation? Remember McCain's answer: "I'll defeat evil."

How is it that feeble, doddering old McCain proposes to defeat evil, when the McPain god can't?

    Hmmmm?

    Q.E.D.  Thanks, Rev.

    Dear Citizen:
Are you ready yet for the November 4th Elections?   How about your friends, family, and neighbors?
More Americans are expected to vote this year than ever before in history, so don't be left out!  Be sure to ask everyone you know the following questions:
    Are you registered to vote?  If you moved recently, have you updated your voter registration?
    Did you apply for an Absentee Ballot?  Do you know your state may not require any reason?
    Can you find your local Polling Place?  Do you know it may have changed from last time?
The answers to these questions -- and all your voting needs -- can be found at www.StateDemocracy.org -- the FREE 1-Stop citizen empowerment portal that Delivers Democracy to your Desktop!   StateDemocracy is among the Internet's first (since 2001) and most encompassing civic empowerment tools.
In order to boost voter participation this year, StateDemocracy.org is offering FREE widgets for all 50 states.  You can simply download and embed these widgets into your own website so your visitors can register to vote, get an absentee ballot or find their local polling place.
    Lobby Congress Via StateDemocracy
StateDemocracy.org also equips you to maintain an active dialog with your state and federal lawmakers once they are elected.  And RIGHT NOW is an especially opportune time to contact your U.S. Senators and House Member, as Congress takes up major legislation on such issues as offshore oil drilling, another economic stimulus package and all federal appropriations bills over the next few weeks.
As you lobby your elected officials, remember that lawmakers view your constituent input as reflective of scores of other citizens who felt similarly, but didn't have (or take) the time to share their opinions.

If you don't understand this, then you don't understand the mind of fundamentalists and, or evangelicals, and will never understand why they vote as a block.

This goes to the core belief that there is only one God and that you only attain salvation/heaven thru the blood of Jesus Christ, therefore all other gods are false gods (demons). That's why he names Hindus, etc.

    This is mainstream Christian theology.

The amusing thing is that this pastor is trying to straighten God out.

He wants God to realize that his (God's) reputation is on the line.
He is portraying God as some kind of dimwit who doesn't know what the hell is going on and who better get of his rump or suffer the consequences of diminished credibility.

This pastor is putting himself way above God.

Or - on the other hand, maybe he thinks he is the Consigliere to the GodFather.

Either way, the issue is the enormous ego of the pastor - not the core beliefs of evangelicals.

The same God that Christians worship.  As far as I know, Jews, Muslims, and Christians don't disagree on God.  They disagree on Jesus.  So the Muslims are praying to the same God.  He might want to try threatening Jesus instead, since at least he won't have a conflict of interest.

Also, I kinda wonder about the Hindus wanting Obama as president.  Do we know if he's won them over yet?  I did notice that he forgot to mention the Jews.  He must've gotten the memo that the Jews are swing voters while Muslims and HIndus are apparently to be written off.
