One week from tomorrow, Michelle Obama may be the First Lady-Elect of the United States. Here she is on the Tonight Show this evening with Jay Leno. (Part 2 is here.) She'll be in Colorado Springs tomorrow afternoon for an early voting rally.

    and her intelligence, grace, sense of humor, and  elegance are so refreshing! How can anyone support Sarah Palin compared to this outstanding individual?

    during the primaries, I was not impressed with Michelle Obama, I felt she was brusqueand angry, they did a makeover on her, and what a job they did! She has become a wonderful spokesperson for Obama and the Democratic Party and all I can say, is I feel her makeover was a more of a "polishing" than a "makeover"

    Palin had a "makeover" and it didnt work, I believe that Michelle had it in her all along, it just needed a bit of "refining" and I could not say enough good things about her now.

    They difference is hers was there all along, Palin's wasnt and it shows.

    and the more I see Michelle, the more I like her and respect her.  Very self-effacing and, of course, very down to earth regarding her husband. A great role model for women of all ages.

    One issue with the posting: Michelle will not be the First Lady-Elect, as we do not elect our First Ladies.  I think maybe First Lady-in-waiting, might be better?  Or is that too Anne Boleynish?

    Michelle tells Jay that Barrack said to her, after visiting his ailing grandmother, "If you wonder where I got my toughness, it's from Toot".

    Now, why don't I believe this?

    Not knowing you I can't speculate why you don't believe this.

    Listening to the video, Michelle Obama describes a larger conversation she had with her husband where he was musing about his ailing (perhaps dying) grandmother's toughness and then made the statement you quoted.

    It all sounds consistent to me as to the kinds of talks families have at times like this.

    "Toughness" is a word that is being bandied about as a virtue during this campaign.

    I can picture someone, in an intimate conversation with a loved one, referring to the strength of an elderly person hanging on. But "tough" does just not sound authentic to me.

    I think that Michelle, like everyone else, starts to say something that seems spontaneous and real, and then morphs into campaign-speak.

    I guess one's reaction to something like this depends on a lot of things which are individual to your own experience.

    I've lost a couple of family members in the last two years (none of them politicians with an image to consider) and I can recall family conversations, in grief, that focused on the loved ones' toughness in the face of either handling the cruelties of their final illness or in handling the demands of a difficult life (marriage etc).

    In my family, at least, the word 'tough' has come up quite a bit to describe a beloved person who has passed away.

    But, as I say, I'm sure it's different for different people.

    My TV just did a nice big KAPUTT! {sigh} I was hoping it would last until spring when I move so it would be one less thing to haul across country . . .  .

    I went without a TV for over a year when I was getting started, living in a basement apartment, and spending all my money on dating.  Save your money and get a nice flat screen TV after you move, otherwise a new TV just might get damaged in the move anyway.  Get better news on the Internet and there aren't any good shows anyway.

    Look on Craigslist and get one for 20 bucks.  And then save for a nice one, and then go on craigslist and take advantage of someone who is moving or something like that and get a nice huge flat screen

    Crusing around on the internet looking and it's not too easy to find the old style TVs anymore, so if I go new, it's gonna be one of those new fangled ones, lol!~

    Go to Cnet.com and amazon and check out the reviews, look at the user reviews.  Ignore the 1 and the 10s and you will find a good TV.

    I'm going to need one where I'm moving anyway, so I'm biting the bullet/TV  :)

    It's a reasonable price and a good size for my current setup and will work in the future home until I get to the final home, lol!~ I'm going with a Vizio, as it gets good reviews for the price.

    I'm thinking 32" for now (Hey, I'm in a Brooklyn apt!) and down the road if I want/need to go bigger, it can become the second/kitchen TV. I just realized my kitchen TV is older than the one that died, lol! That one was a college grad present for my new at home office back in the day!

    Heh, next time I need a second screen when working on a big project, I might just have one (aka tax write off!!) ;) If it lasts me 5-7yrs, I'll be happy. Gone are the days of the 20yr TV! My friend lost hers recently also. If another friend does, we know something is up  ;)

    BTW, why are they forcing everyone to go digital?

    I do have a small one in the kitchen I'm moving into this room for now.

    I'm moving to the mountains in CA  :) The TV that just died I bought 20yrs ago, so I'm due for a new one. I was just hoping it would hang on. I have the money for a nice flat screen, but was planning on waiting. Heh, maybe I'll pack a new flat screen up with the cats and dog and bring it along in the camper van, lol!~

    of our present mumbler-in-chief bugs me, so does listenin' to folks sittin' around droppin' their "ing's."

    I suppose if that's the only criticism I have of her, she must not be all that bad...
