Michelle Obama is on Larry King Live tonight. She seems very relaxed and conversational. I'm starting to picture her as our First Lady. I think she'll be a terrific role model. She has so much more to offer, and is so much more interesting, than Cindy McCain.

    She's talking about Sarah Palin like Sarah Palin is a human being.  Talking glowingly about Palin being a working mom.  Very classy in the midst of zero class.

    who's going personal, with the "palling around with terrorists," and not replying to outbursts in the crowd like, "kill him!"  Not to mention her book-banning efforts, charging women for rape kits, and other issues from her past.  I find her politics to be quite vile, and one's personal ethics does not get checked at the door when one becomes a politician and runs for VP.  

    Michelle is doing the right thing by staying positive in interviews, but I bet that behind closed doors she has a different perspective.

    headed and calls politics politics.  She has good boundaries.  I doubt she has much to say about Palin that is angry or mean spirited.  She said it herself last night, when you know what you are about and know what your goals are and what you are working to accomplish people are always going to talk, but all you need to focus on is WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU ARE DOING.  I think on the campaign trail there are times you have to strike back when the smear goes smeararific.  After that though I wouldn't give the whole business anymore of my beautiful mind as Babs says :)  Gossip and smears will never be blood, sweat, and tears and I reserve the space within my own beautiful mind for those things and for the joys that come from addressing those things.

    Michelle's clearly a classy person -- I'd be proud if she were first lady.

    Palin's, on the other hand, is all 'low class', but she has a lot of it.

    Seriously.

    Perhaps some credit can be given her handlers. She surely was not gracious toward Hillary and Bill Clinton during the primaries.

    And I know that I'm going to get dinged for saying something less-than-glowing about Michelle Obama here, but I'm not ready to pretend that all that stuff didn't happen: her hint that perhaps she wouldn't support Hillary if Hillary won, her snide remarks about how one can't run the White House if one can't run her own house, how this is it: vote for Obama now because he's not gonna run again, etc.. She seemed petty and vindictive during the primaries. I had liked her previously and was extremely disappointed in her.

    So I'm honestly glad to see that she's learned to be more gracious in speaking of her husband's opponents.

    Will she be a great role model? I don't know. Both Obamas are question marks to me. All I hope right now is that her husband has what it takes to run the executive branch of this country and pull us back from the brink. If he can do that, I'll even overlook any return to un-graciousness on Michelle's part.

    (Certainly, he's the best choice we have available, and we're in too much of a mess to play tactical PUMA-style politics.)

    It's almost harder to forgive in such elections.

    In a general election meh it's all gamesmanship.  Primary elections are ideological in a deeper way.

    in the primaries, and I didn't like how she portrayed Hillary Clinton, particularly when it became personal.

    But tonight, Michelle was poised and charming, and she is, undoubtedly, an intelligent person. I'm willing to try and give her the benefit of the doubt. What's more, she made some warm and complimentary comments about Hillary, and even Bill.

    Media Matters debunked this interpretation of Michelle Obama's comments about "running your own house". In her comments, she was referring to her own house and the ways she and Senator Obama structure child care.

    Media Matters also provides the evidence for how this innocuous comment was later framed by the media (notably CNN) as having more critical connotations toward other candidates.

    As for the hint about how she may not vote for Hillary, she has made the same hint jokingly about her husband a number of times, that he still has to "win her vote".  I think she's just snarky and not gonna be taken for granted by anyone, not even Obama.  Although I think it's also clear there were some hard feelings during the primary.  But if Michelle and Hillary can move on, so can we I hope.

    Even if what you say is true and Hillary "started" MM, then it lends even more creditability to their findings.  

    If an outfit "started" by Hillary debunks a supposed slam against her, it certainly seems to me that there isn't anything to it.

    Hillary herself speaking at YearlyKOS.  From her mouth to your ears.  Claims to have started Media Matters and the Center for American Progress.  If I recall she says it around the 2:40 mark

    There's no evidence of Senator Clinton 'starting the organization on their web site which features both a list of their content contributors and 'advisors' and this explanation of who they are:

    "Media Matters for America is a Web-based, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) progressive research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media.

    "Launched in May 2004, Media Matters for America put in place, for the first time, the means to systematically monitor a cross section of print, broadcast, cable, radio, and Internet media outlets for conservative misinformation -- news or commentary that is not accurate, reliable, or credible and that forwards the conservative agenda -- every day, in real time.

    "Using the website www.mediamatters.org as the principal vehicle for disseminating research and information, Media Matters posts rapid-response items as well as longer research and analytic reports documenting conservative misinformation throughout the media. Additionally, Media Matters works daily to notify activists, journalists, pundits, and the general public about instances of misinformation, providing them with the resources to rebut false claims and to take direct action against offending media institutions."

    But if you have some, or know some reason why a Hillary Clinton affiliation would somehow bias their judgment on this, I'd love to see it.

    Michelle's comments BEFORE her "run your own household" remark were about values and mutual respect within the Obama family. I saw the video--the long version--and I know what I saw. She was snarky. And the crowd's reaction (laughs and applause) showed they got it.

    Not gracious.

    But history is written by the victors. Again, I just hope Obama does a good job. At this point, that's my foremost concern.

    and her comments about Hillary Clinton in the primary is absolutely correct.  
    Michelle seems to have learned a lot since then and I look forward to her continuing this more gracious approach when she is First Lady.

    She has a pretty interesting life that she doesn't talk about. She's much more than she appears to be.

    I have no interest in hearing more from CM, unless she wants to apologize for accusing Obama of running the "dirtiest campaign in history" or saying that he sent a chill down her spine when he voted to cut off funding for the Iraq war.  She has become nothing but another vicious, manipulative attack dog for her husband.  I have no interest in listening to that.

    though she spoke out today:

    "I'm proud of my sons, but let me tell you, the day that Senator Obama decided to cast a vote to not fund my son when he was serving sent a cold chill through my body."

    "Let me tell you - I would suggest that Senator Obama change shoes with me for just one day, and see what it means, and see what it means to have a loved one serving in the armed forces, and more importantly, serving in harm's way."

    I just hope john wasnt too uncomfortable in her pumps after he cast his vote against a troop funding bill.  I hear those can be a killer.

    Her son was not in Iraq when that vote was taken that she refers to.
    McCain did resist the Biden bill to allot emergency funding of M-Wraps vehicles when our guys were dieing in droves from IEDs hitting Humvees. Not one recorded casualty has occurred in an M-Wrap. My son is driving one now in Baghdad instead of the Humvee he was driving earlier and I feel much better and thank Biden and Obama for looking out for my son and his mates.

    Michelle did a great job last nite on Larry King.
    Hillary is out on the trail today doing a great job for Obama. Thanks to Hillary and Bill for their advocacy for Obama.

    Although, to be fair, her husband is going to win this thing in an out-and-out landslide. She's on top of the world.

    It will be interesting to see her demeanor when the $hit is hitting the fan - which it most assuredly will - during the next 4 years or so...

    Where she talked about "what Barack gets mad about" was really good.  You can beat me up personally, just don't ruin the country.
