Saturday Evening Open Thread: Owl Farm Blogging

I can't think of a better place to blog the final days of the election than Owl Farm. I just arrived and am waiting for Anita to get here.

On the drive up, I heard both Obama's Pueblo speech and McCain's PA speech. I heard Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney and Joe Biden.

I doubt this election will be close, but still, everyone needs to get out and vote.

This is an open thread, I'll be back later. Here is another photo and larger version of the one above.

    I drank the kool-aid, all of it, BUT. . . (5.00 / 1) (#12)

Tell me, why can't the campaign use the $250,000 number ALL the time?

I don't why they used $200K in the infomerical (yes, it can be explained, but why confuse people?) or why Biden and Richardson are using different numbers, which also can be explained.

My point: why require an explanation when all you have to do is talk about the tax cuts the same way ALL the time?

These are smart folks, so i just don't get it.

I think McCain could make inroads with this one but they have too many other competing messages out there for it to settle in with people.  At least, I hope that's the case.

    I don't know. (none / 0) (#14)

They seem to have a strong message control, better than is usual for Democrat campaigns.  But Obama's strong suit hasn't been economics and he only went there persistently after the crisis hit.

I advise using the larger number, since it will sit well better with most people.

technology, I now have two radio set wall clocks that not only keep time perfectly, but will change over directly at 2 or 3 AM.

I still have to reset other timepieces by hand.

The problem is that the kids take a while to reset.  Their 5 am rising will convert to 4 am for a week or so.

Along with any vacation to the east coast relatives.  The three hour time skew made life hell for at least a month after we'd return.  And as babies, forget it, any messing with the body clock oughtta come with a free exorcism. Or two.

my oldest (then 6) would not just wake up, but begin to make our special recipe pancakes by himself.  I started waking up the minute he did in order to avoid the mess he would create.

i'd rather be at the beach. rod firmly planted in it's holder, line out, waiting for that tarpon to hit the finger mullet on the hook. a cooler of cold coronas, with pre-sliced limes, next to my chair.

    or Atlantic side?

Watching a leaping head shaking silver king or even a smaller acrobatic one doing a double somersault in the pike position is one of the great thrills of fishing... especially if you are alone, just you and the fish, and not dealing with anything like the tarpon zoo at Boca Grande,

Seems to be an abuse of power on the part of several politicians. Then, if your nephew was an elected official, wouldn't you go to him for help when you needed it? I would.

Living in public housing, despite tens of thousands of Americans on the waiting list. Income source is the taxpayers. I hope she's not registered to vote.

Hard to believe Obama didn't know her status. But, not sure if she speaks any english. He can't be expected to know everything about distant relatives.

Hope the Obama camp has some good response.

Not that it makes any difference to my (already cast) vote.

Diebold machines still losing votes...... (none / 0) (#10)

    http://www.alternet.org/blogs/peek/105492/

"October 30, 2008 - Today, three voting rights watch dog groups, the Brennan Center, Verified Voting, and Common Cause released an advisory to election officials warning that voting systems in specific states may not total votes correctly if proper procedures are not followed, and stressing that all vote totaling should be manually checked. The warning cited an August 19, 2008 product advisory notice issued by Premier voting systems, formerly Diebold, which acknowledged that the voting system does not always aggregate machine totals correctly when it is compiling votes from multiple polling locations."

We know about the various states in which the GOP has been litigating (unsuccessfully, oh joy) to cast doubt on`new voter registrants....here is a whole new thing to think about!

On AlterNet, one comment asked if Obama's lawyers know about this. Hope so!

It's also stated as true at Snopes.com that people in states that have a straight party-ticket vote option should not use it because it is switching votes from Obama to McCain.

Yesterday I tried to reserve Hunter Thompson's book on the McGovern Presidential campaign from my library.  But the library does not list the book.  Is it still in print?

I got an out of print book from Alibris (Web site). It was used, but it was a book I was looking for forever. When I got it, it was in excellent condition.
