Late Night: Keith Richards Turns 65

Happy Birthday, Keith. Here's a great photo tribute, set to "Sister Morphine."

And a more fun one, set to Johnny B. Goode:

How about Keith and Willie Nelson and Ryan Adams singing Dead Flowers? Or, since it's his birthday, here's Keith and Sheryl Crow singing Happy. Or, since it's almost Christmas, how about Run, Rudolph, Run?

Now if you're flying to the Bahamas. . .

    Live d'town Manhattan..

Love the snow in NYC. A good one shuts everything down and people are on the streets with sleds and cross country skis. 19th century feeling, as I imagine.

And it gets that wonderful snow quiet :) (none / 0) (#11)

    It's my turn tomorrow.

Speaking of age, I'm watching late nite reruns of "Once and Again", which is like a '40 Something' version of "Thirty Something" - made by the same guys actually.

Evan Rachel Wood was in "Once and Again", from the age of 13-16, I believe. In the final season she had an on-screen relationship with Mischa Barton. The writers treated it as a bona fide relationship, rather than a 'phase'. It was a thing of astonishing beauty.

coming out your arse...good company squeak.

The Human Riff...sun god bless him, and with such strong stock, he just might live another 65.  I'd never ever ever bet against Keith Richards.

    Here's some of his wisdom...

"If you're going to kick authority in the teeth, you might as well use two feet."

"Rock and Roll: Music for the neck downwards."

"You don't find a style, ... a style finds you."

"It's great to be here. It's great to be anywhere."

"You've got the sun, you've got the moon, and you've got the Rolling Stones."

    And my alltime fav...

"I've never had a problem with drugs. I've had problems with the police."

    Amen brother.

Glad to see the gears are still turning today after the unwarranted beating you took yesterday, my friend!

"It's great to be here. It's great to be anywhere."

You can't learn if you don't listen.  Unfortunately, too many people tune-out everything when their emotions take over.

We're all knuckleheads in our own ways, I guess.

on "You Got The Silver" especially, on "Let It Bleed"....so so beautiful.  Love that song.

And of course "Happy", his most famous Stones vocal, and I'm also very fond of "Little T&A".

    This verse is for Jeralyn...

    Well the sense is sensing
That the juice keeps pumping and I know why
    The b*tch keeps b*tching
    Snitcher keeps snitching
Dropping names and telephone numbers and all

She's my little rock 'n' roll
My t&ts and a$$ with soul baby...

Rolling Stone just did a piece on the 100 greatest singers in rock-n-roll history and the writer made a great point...Dylan changed the rules of singing forever...as long as you can hear and feel heart, soul, and emotion...its good singing.  It need not be pretty.  I agree 100%.

...and Tom Petty, I will readily admit that the beauty of a voice is what you get out of it and how you connect with it.  As is the case with all music.

It's just nice to have people out there who don't make my voice seem so gawd awful in comparision.  :)

I read the print version, but I found it here.

I didn't scroll through so I don't know if its a condensed version or not.

My major quibble with the list....Levon Helm way too low at 90-something, and no Richard Manuel.  I guess its hard to put more than one Band singer on there, but I would have put Maneul, sh*t Danko too.  All amazing singers.

...and sing while playing the drums is amazing to me.  I never could do--it would always throw me off count.

Probably becausing drumming is very much a primative thing while singing is more emotional/cerebral. I tend to get lost in the beat.

Are people boycotting the inauguration? (none / 0) (#8)
by FoxholeAtheist on Fri Dec 19, 2008 at 01:21:56 AM EST
It would send an unmistakable message if inauguration ticket holders boycotted the hallowed event: i.e. women, and men who call themselves feminists; the LGBTQ community, and heteros who call themselves pro-gay.

If all these folks staged an on-site demo and burned their coveted tickets, that would be icing on the cake.
