Dog bites man, Joe Lieberman supports torture:

Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman reluctantly acknowledged Thursday that he does not believe waterboarding is torture, but believes the interrogation technique should be available only under the most extreme circumstances.

Lieberman was one of 45 senators who voted Wednesday in opposition to a bill that would limit the CIA to the 19 interrogation techniques outlined in the Army field manual. That manual prohibits waterboarding, a method where detainees typically are strapped to a bench and have water poured into their mouth and nose making them feel as if they will drown.

(Emphasis supplied.) It bears repeating, shame on Connecticut for reelecting Lieberman.

    I know the Dem's need him to maintain majority, but I still think the party leaders need to smack him down over this. Somewhere there still has to be some value in principle. He has rubbed the party nose in the mud since reelection. Torture should be a area of the party where there's no room for wiggle. It's illegal, it's always been illegal and as a nation that prides itself on human rights, it has no place in our society. He has done nothing but obstruct the democratic party since the election. If he wants to go, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

    seeing as how they formed a lot of Senator Sanctimony's ground forces after being bussed in.

    (I was going to add something else to this comment, but what I was going to write would surely have set off a firestorm whose worth would not be proportionate to the trouble.)

    Suffice it to say, we all know Lieberman's a hypocrite and not worthy to carry the garbage, let alone be a senator.

    He is the most blatant flip flopper I ever saw.  Abrams showed his flip flop last night on three or four issues.  I mean just blatant to the max examples of flip flopping.  The latest being how on one of his debate he was categorically against torture and said it should be outlawed then makes 180 after he is the obvious candidate.  With candidates like McCain this bit that Obama would do better to beat McCain than Hilary is crazy. Hell I probably could beat him.    Most of the republicans are probably  so embarrassed that McCain is their guy that they will probably just stay home on this election.

    Neither supported him in his independent run.

    who elbowed out Lamont's staff and tried to remake him into something other than what he was, one of the things which led to that death of momentum immediately post-primary from which Lamont never recovered.  And they leaked like sieves.  I always viewed them as her personal poisoned chalice to Ned.

    And the Democratic leadership indicated His Sanctimoniousness would keep his seniority and assignments, which he promptly turned into a campaign issue.

    And the Democrats in the Senate (most of them who showed any interest, anyway) either supported Lieberman (tacitly or explictly) or did not come to Connecticut to help the party's nominee.

    And Bushie, Gonzo, Rover and Skeletor got the Brits to blow - by publicizing it - that big "liquid explosives on planes" investigation the day after the primary, with the Wurlitzer cranked up to 11.

    I was on vacation that week in a remote fishing lodge in Canada.  Limited phone, crappy-to-non-existent pay-by-the-minute internet, no TV for guests (all of which I'd looked for in selecting the place).  Wednesday night at dinner the cranky grandpa who'd built the place (his son runs it now) got up in the middle of main course and proclaimed that the Third World War had started and that the damned Islamofascists were going to blow up everything in the air and we should all be cowering in a hole against them if we weren't wiping them off the face of the earth.  I turned to my companions (one of whom worked on Capitol Hill) and remarked "so, Lieberman lost the Connecticut primary yesterday."  and then told grandpa (and everyone else) that I paid (his family) good money to come on vacation to get away from that sh*t and he should sit down and STFU.  It took two tries to shut him up, but I did.

    And yes, everyone not associated with the Lamont campaign really covered themselves in glory in that race.

    However he got there is now moot. But what are they going to do to him now. He shouldn't be allowed to be running around the country campaigning for McCain and more than likely addressing the Republican Convention and still have the benefits and backing of the Democratic Party. At this point I think they have to do something.

    Lieberman is an egomaniac that lives for attention. I hope he does as well campaigning for McCain as he did for himself. He couldn't even carry Florida!

    I was appalled to listen to an NPR account of a conversation Ari Shapiro had earlier this week with Mukasey when he was in Iraq (my emphasis):

    Mukasey found it personally repugnant, and might consider it torture if it was done to him [!]. "In the context of a CIA interrogation it would be used on very different people in different circumstances. 'These are people who self-select for their ability to resist the technique.' "
