Bush-Appointed Federal Judge Resigns After DUI Cross-Dressing Arrest

Via Pensito Review: U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Robert Somma, 63, has resigned after pleading guilty to a D.U.I.

He was in his Mercedes and wearing a cocktail dress, fishnet stockings and high heels at the time of his arrest last week -- which was occasioned by his allegedly rear-ending a pick-up truck in Manchester, N.H. last week. His wife was out of town at the time of the incident.

The Boston Herald notes:

“He was serving a 14-year appointment. This will leave him without a pension.”

the judge was well-respected as a bankruptcy judge.  Wonder who leaked the police report.

    than the Craig/bathroom story...

Unfortunate for him and his family, but I can't help but rejoice when the party of "family values" is seen for the hypocrites they are (I assume he's a conservative republican apologies if he's pro-choice/gay rights, etc.)

    I strongly disagree. (none / 0) (#3)

I know this guy, and he's certainly no right wing republican if he's a republican at all.  He spoke to me about his concern for the plight of the poor, especially in light of the new bankrupsty laws.  This is too bad.

    The DUI, now thats bad.

I thought police reports were available to journalists? Why would it need to be leaked? Our local paper has a section of local crimes.

    Cross dressing isn't illegal but (none / 0) (#8)

driving with a blood-alcohol level of .12 is.

If this was a pre-planned outing, he knew he would be driving drunk, so why didn't he just get a hotel room and walk to the bar?

in social security cuz she was a waitress for 40 years?

(waitresses work in restaurants - places that are busy busy busy at lunch, dinner, weekends feeding people or they are out of business ... feeding people like ... judges and social security bureaucrats and legislators and their staffs)

see, if you're a waitron, most of them don't make that much money! usually it is better than the wal-mart, but, few of them are making the 40 or 60 grand a year for 4 nights a week that a few trons at the best places can make.

low earnings = doggie poo social security!

I guess it makes sense - you just waited on people so they could relax after working, you didn't do anything important for society, like create memos and reports and presentations!

(but, she can get food stamps if her net worth is less than $2000! oops! How did I forget that windfall?)

I don't care a bit if one of the fascists' judges spends retirement eating outta cans of cat food...

or, I care about them EXACTLY as much as they care about us.

evidently you do not, that Social Security pay outs are based on the amount paid into the system.

There are any number of ways that the government could have invested your mother's payments, but they did not. The results are now what the results are.

are made by rich scum to benefit rich scum, that is why working people get to work their whole lives for peanuts while rich scum live fat and easy!

it is kind of confusing, isn't it?

it is probably better to just be scared and vote for the fascists.

If he has a good and fair record as a judge, it seems silly to throw him off the bench for one  mistake.

At one time I was copying and pasting the lurid stories of these phony Republicans but I'm sorry to say that my folder had gotten so huge that I'll bet that I have more ideas for a whole hell of a lot of super triple X TV movies then Hollywood could ever make.
The text alone would be enough to keep poorly written projects like Prison Break and Lost on the schedule for ten years.

Being a cross-dresser is neither immoral nor is illegal.

In fact, I think it takes a real man to muster the courage to wear a dress.

And suddenly coming out of a deep dark closet in such a public way will take all of his courage. Maybe it will ultimately be good for his soul and a blessing.

However, driving drunk is really stupid, dangerous and illegal. I hope he gets help for his drinking problem.
