we really were filling up the debate thread already.

I have to  say Jeralyn, you've got yourself a vibrant and smart community right now. You must be doing something right.

pulled out her own chair, from what I could see.

Of course I was watching.  I'm into symbolism, and I know the candidates are attentive to it.  Thus, I note that the Sisterhood of the Pantsuit is seeing tonight an austere outfit, far less colorful than in past.  She's dressed like the men in black, black, black.  She means business tonight, people. . . .

continuing. I hope she does a New Hampshire without tearing up. She needs to let people know that she needs their help and why it matters so much who we have as President at this time for our country. It's not the time to take on an unproven.

    Who is moderating? Not Wolf?

are they really goign to ask her (5.00 / 1) (#10)
by A DC Wonk on Thu Feb 21, 2008 at 06:32:31 PM EST
why she is continuing?  That's an awfully stupid question imho.  OTOH, it's also a "softball" question, because it's essentially the same question as "why are you running."

    Whatever . . . we'll see.

"silly" seems to be a thematic element for most of the moderators.

With the exception of Russert, of course, who just goes for "ookey gym teacher who watches you change in the locker room before gym."

    do you think that is a valid question (5.00 / 1) (#19)
by Kathy on Thu Feb 21, 2008 at 06:37:13 PM EST
Huckabee, yes, but Clinton has won the most populous states so far and is not that far behind in the delegate count.  Mathematically, she could make it impossible for Obama to get the number needed to win while she walks away with the popular vote count.  Either way, the superdelegates (as we have discussed to death) decide who gets the nom.  Does that mean she is the spoiler or that he is?  Couldn't you just as easily turn the question back on Obama?

I guess this raises my earlier question: what to do if Clinton has the popular vote and Obama has the delegates?

    Parent

    Of course it is not (5.00 / 2) (#22)

You really think that'll be the first question out of the gate?

I was trying to think of an alternative, because they always seem to lead off with what is at that moment in the news, and I don't think for a second they'll start with the McCain/NY Times crap.  I suppose Pouffle's comment to the Guardian would be a valid line of inquiry.  I think it'll put Obama on the spot big time, because there are not a lot of ways to answer that question without looking like an arrogant jacka*s.

So, what I am saying is, yes--I hope they start with that question.

I suppose Pouffle's comment to the Guardian would be a valid line of inquiry.  I think it'll put Obama on the spot big time, because there are not a lot of ways to answer that question without looking like an arrogant jacka*s.

All he has to do is say that Pouffle was referring to the current delegate count, how few primaries are left, etc etc.  He could say pretty much anything, because I don't think the public is aware of Pouffle's remarks.  And then he says, "but, look, what this election is really about is . . . "

It's a softball question for either of them.

Does anyone know if Wolf is co-moderating?  I thought I also read that they'll be taking quesitons from the audience--that "could" be interesting.

I've always assumed that questions are prepped.  No one in the audience is going to be allowed to ask anything heavy.  We are about as democratic as an Iraqi newspaper in that regard.  Who gets to stand where, who goes first, who has what lighting, etc--it's all hashed out beforehand.  Even the mic'ing is debated before the debate.
