Hillary -O'Reilly Interview: Day Two

Part 2 of Bill O'Reilly's Fox News interview with Hillary Clinton airs tonight. It hasn't begun here yet, but some of you in other time zones may have seen it.

Hillary discusses the war in Iraq and says there's nothing left to be achieved. She also says torture doesn't work. Iran, Pakistan and immigration are discussed as well.

Be prepared to turn the channel when the interview is over. They've picked Laura Ingraham to provide analysis of it.

Here are the ratings for last night. Hillary scored big time with the 25 to 34 demographic.

Hillary to be on ABC "This Week" (5.00 / 5) (#3)
by makana44 on Thu May 01, 2008 at 06:44:35 PM EST
    FYI:
Hillary Clinton will appear in a live town hall meeting Sunday on ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos."

Just two days before the primaries, ABC's town hall event will be broadcast live from Indiana, and also include viewer questions from North Carolina. "This Week" host Stephanopoulos is moderating.

"ABC News has also extended offers to both Sen. Barack Obama and John McCain"  I visited the big orange and they are railing about ABC showing favoritism toward Clinton and scheming about ways to disrupt the town hall meeting. They seem to have been unable to read past the part of the story that says ABC is hosting Clinton to the part that says that Obama and McCain have also received invitations. Given that the entire thing is less than about a hundred words, this makes me wonder if the reading level over there has not dropped to that of a typical 3rd grader. No. Come to think of it, my 3rd grade nephew has better reading comprehension than that.

I suspect what they are really upset about is that ABC is calling his bluff - he either participates in a substantive townhall (not that different for a debate) or he dodges her (again) and she gets an hour to herself.

Obama doesn't do well with extemporaneous speech. He's great when he is reading words that either he or a speechwriter wrote in advance, or when he's in front of a crowd of admirer's spouting off one-liners, but he isn't really into policy and he comes off as ignorant when he is asked questions for which he doesn't have pre-written answers. Heck, he doesn't even know what all of his own positions are. How on earth can he be expected to comment on current events that aren't part of his stump speech?

At the Tavis Smiley debate, Obama was asked about AIDS and the black community.

If the researchers had done a little home work they would have unearthed the Wright tapes where Wright articulates the AIDS as a bio weapon...

Tavis could have asked him about the down low and Obama gives his scripted answer that means nothing and pleases everyone...then Tavis follows up with the quote from Wright. (unfair they wold have said)but

Tavis: Is it possible that your own reverend has distorted the AIDS/HIV issue to a vulnerable group and shares part of the responsibility for ignorance on the subject of HIV?   How do you reconcile your answer with this sort of innaccurate diatribe?

At that point Obama's head would have exploded--because he'd have been confronted with an issue head on and he'd have to actually think on his feet.  If you think back he never had a gotcha questiosn in any debates until now.

If she is debating McCain, it makes her look like she is the frontrunner.  That is the reason they invited McCain--as a ploy to force Obama to show up.

If McCain wants to play his part in Operation Chaos, he should go.  But that's a dangerous game: Sen. Clinton would tear him up in the general, and I think he can beat Sen. Obama.  He shouldn't do anything to benefit Hillary before the convention, if he knows what's good for him.

the idea of being "politically agnostic" on important issues like nuke power?

I don't know if this is a common political tactic for not taking a stand (At this moment, I don't recall others using this term.)  But, it sure has worked for HRC.  You apparently have fallen for this, so it must be working.  I'm sure there are plenty of people in favor of nuke power, who have interpreted her comment differently than you have.

You can also be comforted because she is not for having payroll taxes on higher income folks, but she's not for opposing any SS solution that includes payroll taxes on higher income folks.

And, she's for the goal of health care mandates as a political bargaining starting point.  All you pro mandate types lose this nuance.

And, she's for the voluntary for corporations mortgage moratorium.  If she says pretty please with sugar on top I'm sure they'll volunteer.  Why does she need to be elected to do this?  Some of the mortgage servicers already have the capacity to volunteer to make these loan modifications.  What's HRC waiting for.

And, she says "me too" to the McCain flimflam gas plan.

And then there's SCHIP, FMLA, Bosnia, and being "instrumental" to bringing peace to Ireland.

Hard to see why so many Americans don't trust her.  But, you take comfort in her agnostic stand.

by Edgar08 on Thu May 01, 2008 at 07:54:37 PM EST
What does Timmy do?  Well Mr. Russert does what he always does.  He takes quotes and statements spoken in one context and then juxtaposes those quotes with a set of quotes that makes the interviewee appear to be a double talking bafoon.

He does that to everyone.   I doubt he will do that to Obama.

For instance, if he was really going to "grill" Obama in the way he usually does to other people he would say, "Last year you said this about Rev. Wrignt:"

"What I value most about Pastor Wright is not his day-to-day political advice," Obama said. "He's much more of a sounding board for me to make sure that I am speaking as truthfully about what I believe as possible and that I'm not losing myself in some of the hype and hoopla and stress that's involved in national politics."

But now you have disowned Rev. Wright and have stated that Rev. Wright is untruthful and ... etc.

What do you say to people who simply find it unbelievable that you didn't know who Wright was until this last week?

    Russert won't grill him.

The worst it might get for Obama in this interview is Russert might ask why it took so long for Obama to disown Wright, and Obama might say "Because I believe people should not be judged by one or two statements, and everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt.  It's something I feel I've dealt with and I'd like to move on now to a real issue."

And then Russert will nod in approval.

I guess it all depends on what your definition of grill is?

Obama's candidacy is predicated on being the post-reverend, centrist, bipartisan, post racial Democratic leader. It will prve to be a very expensive experimental illusion.

Wright blew that illusion out the water. No one on the left wing blogs made an effort to warn the left about how easily that illusion could be shattered. It's obvious that Obama's victory has something to do with the organization of the black church and that his initial support was rooted in that congregation.

Media Matters misanalyzed the threat.  Something about salaries and not getting it blah blah blah.

Obama took a different view on the issue when he was an Illinois legislator, voting at least three times in favor of temporarily lifting the state's 5 percent sales tax on gasoline.

The tax holiday was finally approved during a special session in June of 2000, when Illinois motorists were furious that gas prices had just topped $2 a gallon in Chicago.

During one debate, he joked that he wanted signs on gas pumps in his district to say, "Senator Obama reduced your gasoline prices."

We had to install a phone jack next to our box to get DVR. I strongly suspect that Nielsen is getting some hard competition.  How could they resist the ability to know not only what millions of people are watching at a given moment, but also what we have set up to record permaneantly?

Create the Obamas as victims who need sympathy, real people with real feelings...

As happy as I am with the polls, etc. it seems like 5 days is still an eternity for them to turn the tables again. Just hope the trend stays in HRC's direction, but the media, by and large is doing their best to turn the narrative, IMO.

I still don't think Hillary will win this. However on O'Reilly last night Dick Morris [who I hate btw] offered a scenario that was kind of scary. He said Hillary knows she cannot win. But what she and Bill are hoping to do is undermine Obama to the point that McCain will win the General and then Hillary will run again in 2012. Insane and conspiratorial? Yeah, maybe. But if you consider the fact that McCain will not run again in 2012 and instead the Republcians will field a new candidate - then it makes some sense because there will be no incumbent. And Hillary would have a chance of winning then.

I'm sympathetic. I just found out that my mother's accountant screwed up and she now owes back taxes on 3 years worth of retirement checks. We are not happy.
