Hillary, Pelosi and Michelle Obama to Appear Together at DNC Event

Emily's List has just sent out a press release announcing that on August 26th at 2pm it will hold a gala reception at the The Sheraton Denver Hotel, 1550 Court Place in Denver, featuring Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and "Special Guest" Michelle Obama.

You can get a ticket here for as little as $50.

This will be one of the highlights of the week for me and I'll be there live-blogging the event

    Good for her.

She really is inspired by that woman. Despite not being the prettiest first lady, Eleanor was loved and admired for her graciousness and generosity, strength and determination in the face of many detractors. She took some unpopular opinions, including speaking out against the ERA (she felt the gender equality should best be achieved by recognition of gender differences and needs, not an amendment. Despite this, she was still widely respected.

Hillary certainly got the better deal with regards to looks, imo, but she's trying as hard as she can to keep looking forward no matter what kind of dirt gets thrown at her, by both enemies and allies. I don't see either of the women standing beside her on that stage as being anywhere CLOSE to the kind of class Hillary is in.

Taking one for the team, indeed. She'll take it, and run with it.

by Cream City on Fri Aug 01, 2008 at 06:09:47 PM EST
according to many who knew her.  I've read every bio there is. :-)  She didn't photograph well -- and that overbite that worsened with time was the problem.  You may know that she was a neglected child, orphaned early by alcoholism and more, and then was handed off to an elderly aunt who refused the appeals of several in the family to have ER's teeth fixed, as best they could have done in those days.  All that made her a shy woman in many ways, which added to her discomfort for the cameras.

And there is so much more to ER's backstory that explains to me why HRC and I share such admiration for her.  It was when HRC started talking about ER -- and was so mocked for it -- that I really started to pay attention to her, too.

It would be interesting to know -- I haven't seen this anywhere, so if anyone knows, please share -- who is/are Obama's role model/s.  I think it can be very telling.

The downside, as a number have mentioned, is obvious. Yet...for me, Hillary wins out! So...unless it appears that there will be another reception solely for Hillary, I'll plan to attend this one in honor of Hillary, all women candidates and officeholders, and the day of August 26th. (Also: I live within a few miles of the reception site.  'Probably would kick myself if I didn't attend.)

that we want things to be right so bad and I for one want to blame somebody, so blame the speaker of the House.

Nancy is one tough cookie, I don't liek some of the decisions she's made but, they're tactical in a way we don't know. The hope is that when these women get together, things will definitely change including pressuring the presumptive nominee to do what these powerful women want; and that is to fix the ills of the nation.

I don't like that Hillary gave Obama my email address, but there it is an email from his camp no doubt wanting $ in my box.

I think we have to think along those lines if we want to get the country back on track and while I loathe the decision Nancy made not to impeach Bush, she's got the inside info on a lot of things we don't know about and I guess we'll have to trust her.

of the 3 women I believe in 2 of these women save mrs. O (only because I don't know her, she has not proven herself to me at least), want the same things I want for our country,my family and that I do trust them as smart, intelligent mothers.

blindly trusting Pelosi (or any pol) because there are things 'we can't know.'

    That's....revolting.

If Pelosi's actions were brilliant in some way that is unclear to the majority of the electorate, it is her job to explain herself.

The whole attitude that because someone is in authority, they must know best is what leads to things like Iraq (WMD anyone?).

I can maybe, maybe see cutting her (or any pol) some slack once or twice.  But repeated and consistent capitulation to the Right beggars belief and certainly blind faith.

So Hillary will be on stage with Pelosi who is on record for saying there was NO remarkable gender discrimination against Hillary during the campaign and Michelle, who's been given the hands-off-my-wife pass.

    From the LA Times today:
"There were so many examples in the media of sexist comments where we never heard from the party leadership or Barack Obama," said Stacy Mason, executive director of a political action committee called WomenCount, which claims thousands of members. The group ran newspaper ads in the spring urging Clinton to stay in the contest.

"We're focused on why the Democratic leadership was so silent about it during the campaign," Mason said. "It was their obligation to come to the defense of one of their own primary candidates, and they didn't. They stayed silent during the campaign, and that's not OK."

Clinton was an adult and would do the right thing.

Although I'm sure someone somewhere will have something to complain how she didn't say the right thing while she was there.

There is something I'd look out for, and that's how Michelle and Nancy handle the reception Clinton receives.

If it's like they have nothing to lose by Clinton getting a standing ovation, then lets consider that improvement.

But I can already see the jaws tightening.

Which is sad for both Michelle and Nancy.

They really have nothing to lose and everything to gain by setting aside their inferiority complexes and being a part of the event.

I have a nice long brown gauze skirt with turquoise paisley medallions that will go nicely with my brown and turquoise Hillary shirt.

I assure you Hillary will get a long and loud standing ovation of at least one.

    Hillary Clinton the Professionl (5.00 / 1) (#187)
by KeysDan on Sat Aug 02, 2008 at 11:31:00 AM EST
Mrs. Clinton's joint appearance demonstrates the experience and professionalism gained as a part of her work as First Lady that was greeted with a pooh-pooh during the primaries.  Senator Clinton learned to overlook personalities and personal attacks in the interest of achieving greater goals.  As a senator she has worked with previous opponents (such as impeachment floor managers).  The inexperienced hold grudges that hobble them--the professional moves on, but it does not infer, necessarily, forgetting or forgiving.

GLoria Steinem, Jeralyn, BTD, Ted Kennedy, Gen Wesley Clark, Hillary CLinton, and a host of others also are supporting the democratic nominee, as I am.

So Immature? And you ask how old I am? lol

would I be influenced by supporters of a candidate and not the candidate?

    Not I.

That's why I will not vote for Obama.

Will any of the funds for this event be dedicated to retiring Hillary's debt? Just wondering....

This is one of several events during the convention that I would love to attend if lucky enough to live anywhere near Denver. Summer in the Centennial State and the Democratic National Convention too. Life is good in Colorado right now...But would have to arrive a day early to catch the Rockies before they leave town during the Convention.

While Michelle has her faults, I think (none / 0) (#176)

she learns from mistakes more than Barack. She seems to show more of an antenna to feedback than he does. I think she's improving, and it takes guts to appear with Hillary after smearing her in such an immature way "if you can't run your own house, you can't run the White House."

I hope Michelle and Nancy lick Hillary's feet at this event.

    Um....feet licking.... (5.00 / 2) (#179)

is not an image I want to entertain, not even under the circumstances you posit!

I'm not sure whether MO learns more or less quickly than BO, since they seem to have bundled her offstage.

I'm pretty apathetic to Michelle generally, and really, really don't want to see her on the same stage as Hillary but I don't favor the campaign model where the spouse (wife) is kept offstage and just trotted out to smile for the cameras periodically.
