The Obama Bio Video

Al Giordano is right, the Obama bio video that preceded his nomination acceptance speech was fantastic. If you missed it, here it is:

Yes, I too can spend several million dollars and hire the best documentary people and they will absolutely make me look good and maybe just as good as this video.  McCain can do the same thing.  You can't get to emotionally  involved because then you might be disappointed later because   it was only an  emotional video with no delivery.  I hope if Obama gets elected he can deliver but my gut feeling makes me doubt it. He is famous for appealing to the emotions of the  voters more than McCain.

    It is a very good video (5.00 / 4) (#7)

Yes, it was a nice, slickly made, well produced, well edited commercial for a product. All it is is a good marketing tool. Any decent advertising company can make one of those for any product in the world to sell it to you. Doesn't mean it's factual or anything to do with reality.

To me this is just candidate as iPod (or any other 'You Must Have This!' Product.

Nice to get some focus back on Obama (3.00 / 0) (#3)

I thought both this video and his speech were great.  And I was afraid that the setting would hurt instead of help, but in the end it didn't seem to get in the way.

I've been disappointed that McCain was able to quickly change the focus with his pick of Palin.  I assume that was done on purpose.  But that makes me wonder if the original schedule of McCain's speech to conflict with Monday Night Football (with NY vs. Washington to boot) was also on purpose and, if so, to what end?  Only thing I can think of is that McCain's folks know he'd look bad being compared to Obama's speech back-to-back.  But I'd think McCain would want the undivided attention of the nation.

The speech however was terrible. A huge laundry list, half of which is lies or pie in the sky, and not one drop of inspiration.

How did we get such a inferior nominee? Only because the progressives, mostly fake ones, have a guilty conscious and decided to vote for a black candidate.

with lofty rhetoric and soaring oratory?

Those are nice, but they would have been severely panned by everyone.

He had a set of goals with that speech.

    1. Define Change.
    2. Take the fight to McCain by rebutting his points and turning them backwards.
    3. Make it a very grounded and personal speech that can tie his background to the average American.
    4. Do this all in a way that doesn't come off as too negative but rather still tries to stay above the fray while still turning everything into a referendum on McCain/Bush.

He succeeded on all accounts.  That was by far the most substantive speech he's ever given, and it was Clintonesque to boot.  He gave a speech like Clinton did back in the 90s when he was a bit pissed with his detractors and wanted to set the record straight like only he could.

when Obama did and he has a recod much more impressive record than Obama's awful and hypocritical voting record.  I'd certainly vote for him over Obama and so would most adults.  However, yes because Obama was Black he got all of the Black vote and because he is a lying phony, like Ralph Nader, he got all the kids and their stupid parents like Clare McCaskel.  That is why he got the nomination, that and because Edwards took votes away from Hillary and of course because the disgusting press hid and promoted as their as their own Obama's disgustng race bating.

If Bloomberg/Clark would run as a third party ticket, I would vote for them in a heartbeat!

I also liked the video, actually I liked it better than the one Spielberg did on vets. I actually thought it was more engaging. And I am not bashing the subject matter of the Spielberg video, just saying that it did not seem as "fresh" as the Obama video or the Hillary video or the Michelle video. I thought those were the best of the convention.

did you believe. The ones he talked about in this past speech, or what you've been trying to hold his feet to the fire with all these months? Inotherwords, he adjusted his speech to appeal to a wider dem audience. He still voted for FISA, and a woman's right to choose, only with her clergy/family intervention. I thought the video was okay, very americana to people who knew nothing about him.

to race-baiting. Are you daft? I also noticed that altho' there was vast enthusiasm, I just didn't hear them "roar" to knock your socks off. That told me something. Secondly, the camera panned the audience in one shot and there were quite a few empty seats. I believe they said there was approx. 84,000 people there, however, when he was in Berlin it was estimated the crowd was 200,000, but others said 20,000. I still couldn't get over that every time the camera pulled out from tight on him, those huge screens made him look smaller.

It helped move his candidacy forward with uncommitted democrats that I know, especially because he:
-1. took it to Bush et all and
-2. outlined some concrete proposals beyond the hope/change theme. I did not agree completely with every plank (not strong enough on UHC, for eg.)

Re the bio: I did noticed that, via the pictures of the community organizing days re the plant closing, there were plenty of white folks in that basement that were part of the constituency being serviced...now that's the first time I have had that notion of those days, so it was informative in that way.

to Mr. Giordano, with this statement:
For this was the greatest video newsreel of the convention, and probably of the century, , I'm afraid he has become one more member of that group which interprets an ordinary speech (like the candidate rhetorical and platitudinal speech on race)as the "greatest" of the century because it was about or executed by the representative of "we've come a long way baby"? (to paraphrase that cigarrette commercial targeted for women a couple of decades ago)

Talking to fellow Dems I am at least back to not voting for president (was going to vote McCain.)

The video really offended me in that it presented Obama as a saintly figure.

The narrator said Obama's mother saw in him "a promise." What about Obama's sister? Did she see in her a promise?

The narrator said all of Obama's classmates took jobs at big-money firms, but Obama went a different way. I'm sure at least one didn't go for the cold cash and even if they all did, he didn't need to insult his classmates to build himself up.

well the video was about Obama, so the fact that his mother wasn't mentioned as having seen this promise in both children is sort of a stupid thing to be mad about, no? is it that big of a deal?

wow, seriously some here can find something in anything to be irrationally irate about.

seeing as you were going to vote for mccain out of spite, it's pretty apparent you are the bottom of the list in terms of rationality.
