Send Good Thoughts to Morgan Freeman

Actor Morgan Freeman, 71, is in serious condition following a car accident in Mississippi last night. He was extracted from the vehicle with "the jaws of life" and airlifted to a hospital in Memphis.

Send good thoughts his way. Here's a famous clip from Shawshank Redemption where he meets the parole board and is asked if he's been rehabilitated:

he was talking and joking after the accident despite the seriousness nature of his injuries. That's a good sign.

Morgan is an American treasure. In my opinion, he was robbed of a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Seven. Yeah, I am still pissed.

Morgan Freeman, like many have already said here, is and will always be one the best actors and American ambassadors we'll ever have.

I had the pleasure of meeting him last year when he was in D.C. and despite being a huge movie star, he was just a regular, lovable Joe.

I'm sending him my thoughts and best wishes for a full, speedy recovery, and many more years of great and inspiring film performances.

My dad had just died when I first saw the Electric Co.  Watching Mr. Freeman on that show was a big comfort to me.  You see my dad was tall, and thin and dark like Mr. Freeman, but the thing that offered me the most comfort was they had identical walks, and mannerisms so he was a big comfort to me. I have been a loyal fan since then.

So glad that someone got help to him quickly enough to airlift him to the hospital for what every one of his millions of fans hopes to be a speedy and solid recovery.

He has that incredible presence that is so unique, and I sure hope he has many more movies to share with us.

and an amazing scene...here's to a speedy recovery for Mr. Freeman.

Another great scene from Shawshank...Red explaining how cons become institutionalized. Can't find a video clip, but here's the quote. I can't picture anybody but Morgan Freeman delivering these memorable lines.

"Brooks ain't no bug.  He's just... he's just institutionalized."

"The man's been in here fifty years, Haywood.  Fifty years.  This is all he knows.  In here, he's an important man.  He's an educated man.  Outside, he's nothin'.  Just a used up con with arthritis in both hands. He probably can't even get a Library Card if he tried.  You know what I'm trying to say."

"I'm telling ya, these walls are funny.  First, ya hate `em.  Then ya get used to `em.  Enough time passes, ya get so you depend on `em.  That's institutionalized."

The NYTimes, in reporting about Mr. Freeman's injuries, added this line: "''There's no indication that either alcohol or drugs were involved." They were quoting a Mississippi highway patrolman.

I don't think this line was necessary.
The thought hadn't even entered my mind until they put it there.

In truth, I felt it was racist.
