Obama on SNL

Barack Obama will appear this weekend on the season premiere of Saturday Night Live. Expect Republican outrage that Obama is acting like a celebrity, even as they shop Sarah Palin out to People magazine and despite John McCain's own appearance on last season's finale.

Do you seriously believe that the Republican Party consists solely of folks like Joe and Mabel milking the cows out there in small-town America?

I'm pretty sure it's a bigger tent than just your parents and their friends.

If appearing on SNL is unpresidential, then I guess we have no presidential candidates to vote for this year.  Personally I loved that sketch where McCain sang Barbra Streisand songs.

Obama is very awkward in his behavior and mannerism, and on his brief appearances on SNL and other comedy shows in the past, he just hasn't exuded that X-Factor that Hillary Clinton displayed.

HC has perfect comedic timing, and is able to poke fun at herself perfectly well. And if I recall, her appearances towards the end of the Primaries seemed to herald in an upswing in her popularity and vote-haul too.

It may be good for Obama at this time to be on SNL, and the only good I think it will do him is it will relax him personally and psychologically. It will not have any bearing on increasing his support among voters.

McCain has done a beautiful job of maneuvering Obama into a box, and at this point I just don't see how Obama gets out of it.

You're right in that Obama will be worsening his caricature as a celebrity, but he can't very well not go-  NBC no doubt required balance in that, if McCain appeared this spring, then Obama had to perform at some point.

Then of course, there's that NBC thing on the heels of the conventions.  I'm sure Jeff Zucker is cringing all over again at just how damn bad Olbermann and Matthews have made him look, but again, he can't get out of it.

This appearance is only going to harden McCain's vote, and that's if everything goes well.

Funniest comment of the night; congratulations.

We want her/him to shut up because s/he is repeatedly mistaken about the most basic facts in her "arguments," and then when they are pointed out, says things like "well, i don't believe that."

but to you, s/he is the paragon of argumentation.

And calling folks at TL Obama supporters is downright hilarious. You realize that most TL'ers were/are very pro-Hillary, right? We are all about strong women here -- not unqualified women, or women or men who are too simple-minded to know the difference between a talking point and a fact. And that includes devon cooper.

    thanks for playing.

humor, I don't understand why all the humor shows haven't had him on numerous times.  I mean, he's just a natural.  He's so funny!  My neighbor's child tries to pretend to be him, with the serious face and all, and everyone just breaks out laughing!

Obama is such a comedian!  I can hardly wait for the book of his humorous quotations!

    Letterman?

I think Letterman, Ellen, The View, Snl etc are neutral in the celebrity classification. Along with People mag (Obama fam was in what mag?) etc. They all do them to reach a wider audience. Stage speeches in Germany and use outdoor stadiums, not so much  ;)

Thanks for the heads up on SNL. Don't watch much in recent years, but election year makes me give them a chance. I'll be in Sat night "WTF am I gonna do with all this produce" mode and baseball will have ended for the day/night. Something to check out while processing food, lol!~ ;)

McCain wont watch it.  Did you see his NH speech when he didnt get enough sleep? Man, that was rough.  Even the gop pundits were laughing at him.
