Sunday Football Open Thread

Green Bay 21, Detroit 3 at halftime.

Jeralyn and BTD are both flying this afternoon and I'm watching football so here's an open thread. You don't have to talk about football but you do have to follow the commenting rules.

Update: Packers 48, Lions 25. 2 INT's and 1 TD by Charles Woodson. INT and TD by Nick Collins. 328 yards and 3 TDs for Aaron Rodgers. Now it's time for the Jets and Brett Favre.

    here

I can't follow a recipe to save my life and always end up changing it  {grin} I used cannellini instead of Kidney beans, berkshire bacon instead of sausage, added the portobello mushrooms (sauteed at the beginning) and mushroom broth instead of beef.

I'm thinking of trying this one next. I use the food network site a lot for recipes and also this one. I just found this one today while hunting for recipes for Hon Tsai Tai. My CSA is expanding my food knowledge these days, lol!~  I try and find recipes that can be easily altered to fit what's in the kitchen and my moods. My leek and potato soup is like that as are many bean style soups.

I'm thinking of a CSA share next year. i hesitate because I live alone and don't have space for a freezer. However, reading your posts about your CSA bounty has me really wanting to figure a way to do it.

a small chest freezer. They hold a lot. I got one for my pet meat and I think it holds 175lbs and is smaller than some washing machines. I put a cutting board on top of it and use it as extra counter space when I'm cooking. Heck, these days I would put a freezer in my bedroom or living room if need be, lol!~ I'm a bit odd though  :) Check your local CSAs. Mine you can do every week or every other week. Some have different share sizes and you can decide how much you can handle. It's got me eating foods that I never bought because I didn't know what to do with them. And most of them are really good for ya!

I live in a 300 sq. ft. studio apartment. So, I don't know where I would put even a small chest freezer. If only I could convince the landlord to let me put one in the hallway. Freezer or not, you inspire me to try to find a way.

Leaving central Illinois for Oregon three decades ago dramatically expanded my food horizon, and I am still discovering new foods, especially vegetables. I am lucky enough to have a little garden space in the backyard of my apartment building. And Portland is a hotbed of local food mania. There is a farmers' market just seven blocks from my home. So, every Saturday from early May-Thanksgiving I can head down there.

by rdandrea on Sun Sep 14, 2008 at 04:05:46 PM EST
Kale is great as a green leafy vegetable by itself.

Wash it thoroughly, rip the tough stems out of it, tear the leaves into pieces, and place the leaf pieces in a pot with just the water left on them from washing.  Cover and steam it till tender and serve it with plain butter or a little balsamic vinaigrette (I prefer the latter).

Michigan is not really any good!  Nevertheless, the game was decided because Michigan made a bunch of turnovers.  Notre Dame doesn't seem to be that hot either.

My prediction that the Rich Rodriguez era will be a spectacular flameout is, thus far, not looking so bad.

So quick to pass the blame to a dead man. Disgusting.

It is, now days, ubiquitous in our culture and government to blame the least empowered for what goes wrong. Fix the blame and not the problem.  Since nobody has the guts to get to the real root cause, nothing gets fixed.
If we could change that like we changed the cultural attitudes about smoking, we might arrest the fall of the American Empire.
