Drudge: "The Disco Of Right Wing News Sites"

Great line from Kevin Drum. And it gets to a larger point of the discussion of Drudge World - the political Media, by and large, is not only largely incompetent, they are incredibly behind the times.

I betcha if you gave the Right bloggers some truth serum, they would admit Drudge is ridiculous and well, so 5 years ago. Pajamas Media and their group of bloggers are much more interesting to read for what is happening on the Right. The Corner is much more interesting. Drum compares Drudge to the Enquirer, in terms of whether it is interesting. I think that gets it right. But it is a reflection on how, in essence, out of touch the political Media largely is. Of course there are important exceptions, like Ron Brownstein who, whether you agree with him or not, generally brings something intelligent, original and interesting to the table almost every time. Sort of the anti-Politico.

that Drudge was dead until the Obama campaign legitimized them complaining about the picture of Obama somewhere in Kenya.

I've seen a few right wingers be pretty touchy about Drudge after the Kerry mistress story.

    What's in a story? (5.00 / 1) (#2)

My biggest beef with the Media can be summed up by the average front page news crime story.  The incident itself usually receives a lot of coverage.  The follow up articles where who did what when are discovered and explored are smaller and buried.  The conclusion - trial, verdict, sentence may not be reported at all.

In MediaLand - Speculation and jumping to conclusions often trump actual facts and information.  The implications are stunning.  Important and relevant stories are often ignored unless they are spectacular enough to upstage everything else.

I used to visit Crooks and Liars, Raw Story, heck even the NYT on a regular basis.

Now I find myself reading Drudge, the NYPost, and (urp) the Inquirer to find stories that aren't being covered in the 'liberal' media outlets.

It seems we've gotten to the point where the is no objective source of information anymore.  The only choice is to read obviously slanted news from many sources and try to reason it out for yourself.

Takes a lot of time - and too much for myself and the average voter to sift through.

P.S. Reading the BBC and other foreign news is helpful, but they aren't completely unbiased either.

    no objective source of information

The best one can hope for is impartiality, and even that is hard to come by. What is selected to even report on betrays one's biases.

to my conservative, right wing ex-husband who thinks the Internet is all lies. He relies on THe Daily News, The Staten Island Advance (very C-R), CNN and MSNBC. I give him credit for staying clear of Faux News. He just doesn't quite understand that I can read all those sources and more without all the paper and background noise from the TV.

I knew I had gone thru the Looking Glass when I found that Faux News was more even-handed in its coverage of the primaries (and HRC) than any other news outlet.  What dimension am I in here?

was Joe Scarborough on MSNBC defending HRC and decrying the sexist and misogynist remarks. He was actually supporting her and still does.

pay attention to Drudge that the righties do. esp the 'Liberial Media (TM)'. If you really want to see the latest wingnut talking point develop (besides getting on the RNC mailing list where thye just hand you your thoughts for the day), hang out at the Corner for a while. If the posters don't quite get it, the commentators will set them straight, and then fan out over the mighty tubes that give us the internets to disperse the CW.

Oh, and they think the Left sites spew out hate, you have to wear acid proof hip waders to find your way through the bile generated there, leaving behind mental breadcrumbs to mark the exit from the swamp (to be fair, they do come up with some good stuff, but seeing the amount that's generated, how could they not?)

that the whole point of the right blogsphere and it's minions in print, radio and video was to distract (Look, outrage! Look, shiny thing! Look! Flag). While they may be out of touch and incompetent they are good at it.

...having clean, consistent layout and web coding.  It's one of the few sites that you can go to, scan, and get out of in only a few seconds.

Want to know what the overnight ratings are for Rachel Maddow's show?  Need quick hurricane info because you've read rumors that bodies are "hanging from trees in Galveston"?  Drudge is, like it or not, a good source for links to the sort of information you're looking for.

Too many sites are relying on links to video these days.  Video links are fine, but they take up space, and if they lack clear text summaries they're often a waste of time. (TL is pretty good about this, but other sites I used to visit in the past are really vid-cluttered and slow-loading, at least on my system.)

I don't like the Drudge site's political stance much at all, but I appreciate the fact that it's still mostly text-based.

I hit drudge now and again so I know what the talking points will be for the GOP.  He clearly telegraphs their angles of attack.

I cruise RedState now and again just because it amuses me to see them threatening everyone.  Ive never seen so many, "Ive got a rifle collection and I'm getting a little tired of this" type posts. It's like Ayn Rand's version of the Roman Empire.
