The Emmys are on tonight. Its website is really lame, but AOL already has 341 photos from the Red Carpet up.

The Red Carpet area is really small and they are packed in like sardines. It's also very hot. The interviews are ongoing now on E! There was also some kind of threat so some of the stars had to walk part way. [More...]

Damages, the FX Series with Glenn Close playing a legal barracuda and Ted Danson as the rich corporate robber baron (which I was probably one of the ten people in America who watched) is up for best series. So is Mad Men, a series about the advertising world in the 1960's, and Boston Legal.

The Desperate Housewives stars look really good. The show has been revamped for this year when it leaps five years into the future. Gabby and Carlos have two fat little kids and talk about whether they should be on a diet.

Tina Fey is up for an best actress comedy award for 30 Rock, competing with Mary Louise Parker for Weeds. I hope Mary Louise Parker gets it. Glenn Close, Kyra Sedgwick (Closer) and Sally Field (Brothers and Sisters)are up for best actress in a drama series. Since I don't like prosecutor shows like Closer, I'm hoping Sally Field wins.

Best supporting actress puts Chandra Wilson of Grey's Anatomy against Rachel Griffiths of Brothers and Sister. No question in my mind that this year Rachel Griffiths should win. (Wilson was great the first year of Grey's Anatomy but the show really had awful writing this past year.)

with a nice intro by Steve Martin. Tommy looks like he hasn't aged at all. I thought he was dead and it was going to be a memorial award. I'm glad I was wrong.

He's giving a political speech, "there's nothing more scary than watching ignorance in action" and "Truth is what you get other people to believe."

Dickie Smothers is there too in the audience.

So, was comedy really so much better then?

The young'uns here won't have know who a lot of those people were... I had no idea many of them were still alive.

Steve Martin is keeping in good shape, isn't he.

Smothers: it was like going through a time warp. I enjoyed that although I was worried he wouldn't remember the next word and the audience seemed worried too. Oh, the difference was they did their shows live back then - always added a bit of tension, and even way back THEN I thought their humor was relatively harmless, yet they were taken off the air abruptly for being too radical. It was really shocking when it happened.

Then Don Rickles? Hasn't lost that sadistic touch! I often thought his humor cruel but except for one strange joke in opening, he had me in stitches because I didn't think he could do the zingers so naturally, because he doesn't have an easy time walking. He was obviously touched to win that Emmy. Lily Tomlin with the rest of the cast from the old Laugh-in?

I was unnerved by Mary Tylor Moore's extreme thinness and what looks like muscle atrophy. I don't think she realizes it's not healthy? Used to love her show though.

Does anyone here use DirectTV? I wanted to quit Comcast Cablevision and try DirectTV but I've read tonight a lot of bad things about DirectTV (as well as a lot of negative things about Comcast's cablevision).

I've had to watch cable news w/o being able to get CNN on the standard digital receiver at least, in the computer room. No CNBC either. Sometimes MSNBC and Fox don't come in either (broken images, sound) and it's only the cable news shows that are like that. I've complained a few times and each time they fix it for about 2 days. Of all the people to be deprived of cable news...

My dad used to take me to games there when I was a kid. I don't follow the game any more but even I felt sad when I heard that tonight is its last night.

BTW, all tv tonight is fine here, doesn't have to be the Emmys.

Wed night
Had many a fun time there. I'll hit the new stadium before I leave NY. It looks real nice so far. Tomorrow night, it's Shea stadium for the first game of their last regular season home stand. Haven't seen the new Shea yet, but I'll be hitting it up also before I leave.

Its a movie where you know how its going to end but once you start watching you can't stop looking. In my opinion a very accurate depiction of what happened. Also, Laura Dern's protrayal of Katherine Harris was spot on.

Is a great show with law as a theme. Well, I am not going to say it is realistic as far ass the legal side goes, but it is amazingly tense in the drama department, and I highly recommend it.

in Wisconsin, none by either candidate -- although we've seen plenty in recent weeks, and more than half of the ad budgets of both campaigns have been spent in the upper Midwest states in recent weeks.
I rarely watch this channel, though; I see the ads on cable channels. Or maybe the ad buys have been pulled because internals polls argue with the published ones that have us as a swing state again. Great news if we're not; we've had more than enough political ads for a decade now. And it would be nice to not have to worry about my vote.
Maybe all the ad money is going to Colorado now.

as he is in Green Bay tomorrow, his only day of appearances this week, and she is making three stops around the state this week. And McCain and Palin were here just a few days ago.

breaks of a NatGeo show about the Neanderthals. The NatGeo show was absolutely fascinating. I can't seem to remember anything about the Emmys...

Also saw the animated movie Igor on Saturday. Clearly a political allegory with a liberal bent, and some well-done inside "actor" jokes for good measure. And pretty dam funny, to boot.
