Update 11:08 am: The former VP's enter: Dan and Marilyn Quayle (talk about a flash from the past), Al & Tipper, Walter and Eleanor Mondale.
All the Republicans are here too -- Newt Gingrich managed to look happy. The bands are starting up.
What stations are you watching? I'm on NBC right now because CNN and MSNBC aren't in HD here.
George H. Bush and Barbara Bush are wearing matching purple scarves. He's walking with a fairly big limp and a cane. Jimmy and Roselyn Carter, Bill and Hillary come in next. Hillary looks really pretty in a great looking blue coat. She looks happy. She says to G.H. Bush, "I'm so glad to see you."
Update 11:20 am: It's begun, there's an announcer now. First he announces, the Carters, then you see the Bush twins enter, then they announce Former President G.H. Bush and Barbara Bush.
Next up, entering to cheers when their names are announced: Former President Bill Clinton and Senator Hillary Clinton. The Bush daughters follow them, without announcement. It's 27 degrees.
Malia and Sasha Obama just entered and were announced, they look so cute. They are accompanied by Sheila Dwyer. Did Brian Williams just do a faux pas when he said they were accompanied by their grandmother? Maybe not, when it shows the seating area, their grandmother and Obama's sister are right behind them. Malia has something in her hand, I think it's her ever-present camera.
Laura Bush and Lynn Cheney come in now. Laura says, "Hey everybody, how are you all?"
Michelle Obama in a yellow sequin or brocade coat and Jill Biden in red now enter. Right behind them is a lady with a black hat that looks just like the wicked witch of the west from the Wizard of Oz, I have no idea who she was.
Update 11:32 am: GW and Cheney in the wheelchair enter. He gets a song played for him but not a lot of cheers. He's shaking a lot of hands.
Michelle looks radiant, she's got a red box, probably containing the Lincoln bible.
Interesting seating arrangements: Bill Clinton sitting next to the Bush twins.
Biden is announced. Obama is approaching the door. He looks very solemn. He must have a million thoughts going through his head. The crowds are going wild now.
Nancy Pelosi and Diane Feinstein are right in front of Obama. As one announcer says, it looks like a lonely moment for him. But I just saw a small smile on his lips.
Update: 11:44 am: Barack H. Obama is announced and the crowd does go wild. It's a sea of flags out there. Everyone is shaking his hand. What a wonderful, glorious moment. He sits with his family.
Diane Feinstein begins her remarks. She says this is a peaceful transition of power. When have we ever had a violent inauguration? I don't care for her or her remarks. Why was she chosen?
Rick Warren is up for the invocation. Time for the mute button? He recites the first line of the shema? Later he goes to "hallowed is thy name" and the "kingdom and the glory."
Now, Aretha Franklin is up, singing "My Country 'Tis of Thee." What a beautiful voice. It's the first moment of chills -- historic, beautiful, patriotic.
Update: 11:57 am: Biden gets sworn in.
It's offical: Cheney is our ex-Vice-President.
Music time: Itzhak Perlman and YoYoMa. After this, the main event. And forever more, G.W. will be relegated to history and no longer in charge of our country.
Update: 12:04 pm: Bush's term expired 4 minutes ago. Here's Chief Justice John Roberts. "Everyone please stand." Obama gets up, takes the oath with Michelle next to him. Roberts flubs, puts the word "faithfully" in the wrong place. Obama figures it out quickly. Done. It's offical.
Welcome President Obama. A new thread is going up for the inaugural speech.
