Sunday Football Open Thread

Terrible slate of games in the NFL New England at Denver should be good though. Despite being 4-0 and playing at home, Denver is a 3 -point underdog in this game. I like the PATS (-3).

In the NFL double digit lines are the exception not the rule. Not this week. The Giants are 16 point favorites over the Raiders, the Eagles are 16 point favorites over the Bucs, the Vikings are 11 point favorites over the Rams and the Steelers are 11 point favorites over the Lions. Just for the hell of it, I'll take the underdogs - Lions (+11), Raiders (+16), Rams (+11) and Bucs (+16).

I am picking two extra this week. The Bengals have played well this year but they are 9 point underdogs to the Ravens. Makes no sense to me. Should be 4 or 5. Therefore I will pick the Ravens (-9) using reverse psychology. The Niners are playing great and should be 4-0. They are playing home against the Falcons. They should be 5 point favorites. They are 2.5 point favorites. Again using the trap theory, I am betting the Falcons (+2.5).

More . . .

I am 4-0 in my FFL. Today in a clash against the other 4-0 team in my league, I am starting Peyton Manning (over Brett Favre), Ronnie Brown and Brandon Jacobs (over Leon Washington), Nate Burleson, Andre Johnson and Hines Ward (over Lee Evans), Seattle TE John Carlson (over Kevin Boss - Antonio Gates has a Bye week), Vikings kicker Ryan Longwell and the Eagles Defense and Special Teams. My opponent has Ben Roethlisberger. So a good result for me would be 3 TD passes to Ward for 100+ yards and Big Ben throwing 5 interceptions and completing no other passes to any other player (he also has Santonio Holmes.) I am also wishing for bad day for Ricky Williams, Brian Westbrook, Randy Moss, Brandon Marshall, Dallas Clark, the NE kicker and the Colts defense. Wish me luck.

    Chargers have a bye week, (none / 0) (#13)
by Anne on Sun Oct 11, 2009 at 10:15:12 AM EST
along with Chicago, Green Bay and New Orleans; only 14 games on the schedule during bye weeks.

The week off is coming at a good time for the Chargers, but I think New Orleans could benefit more from a later bye.

Last year, the Ravens and the Texans ended up taking their bye in Week 2, because of the hurricane, and had a long, long stretch with no rest; Baltimore still managed to get to the playoffs, but it wasn't easy playing 14 straight regular season games, and then two playoff games on top of that.

Betting against the Broncos again... (none / 0) (#10)

Hope that works out for you as well as it did last week when you picked the Cowboys.

By the way, the Broncos are wearing what historically has been labeled pro football's ugliest uniforms ever -- brown and mustard yellow with vertical striped socks from the 1959-1960 Bronco team.

the Padres should do something with the brown and yellow for their uniforms. You know, a little muting on the yellow and not too much of it. I love my retro Padres cap!

As for the Broncos' unis...wow...those are just ugly. You're right, I think it's the socks that push them over the irredeemable edge...

that the Pats will become so mesmerized by the striped socks that they simply stand around rubbing their eyes.

Having said that, one of my fantasy teams is matched up against two Broncos -- Marshall and Moreno -- so I'd actually be quite happy if they end up blinding themselves.
