Spouse phoned, Jim will be reassured to know that he waited an hour and a half for a bad haircut :)  Some things change, some things never will I suppose in the war zone.  I could hear people in the background giving my husband a bad time about his hair too.  I don't know why he's standing in line.  I know one of the guys working with him.  The guy used to cut his wife's hair in an inverted bob once she got the pattern set, too many people messed her hair up all the time but special forces are anal retentive about everything. So Jesus..........just have Roger cut your hair.  He couldn't do it worse than what you just got Babe!  And I heard a lot of other people in the background volunteering and they claimed to have clippers too.

is such a great film.  We were living in San Francisco at the time, in Harvey's district, and we voted for him.  We were there when he was assassinated.  I will never forget it.

I agree.  And I was only in SF once, for a few days.  You don't have to have been there then to relate to the movie now -- and Penn's performance is extraordinary.

All of his friends worked on it I noticed in the credits.  Such an inspiring person.  I was so touched by the phone calls he got from miserable people who came to have some hope.  So many unaccepted and/or hiding miserable people contemplating suicide or attempting it.

Second grade son wanted to go hear Spooky Stories at one of the metroparks.  After many days of struggling with his academic and domestic obligations, he finally earned his Spooky Stories!  A round of spousal arm twisting got him a driver and a chaperone. (Excusez-moi?  You just had a guys' weekend - whaddya mean you're busy?)

According to the son, he wasn't scared at all.  According to the spouse, he wanted to leave before the intro was over.   It's fine either way - he wanted it, he got it.

    [

T]he Cookie Diet. . .has to be one of the best diet scams I've seen in years. I went on the cookie diet myself, many moons ago, back in college. And I lost about 15 pounds very quickly.

I ate two Chips Ahoys for breakfast, two Chips Ahoys for lunch and three Chips Ahoys for dinner, along with all the TAB I could drink. I had to quit it however, when I fainted in English Lit.

I wouldn't last a day. If I don't get enough protein, I become very irritable.

Can you Rapture your car too?  Blackberry?  ipod?

Royalty used to have their pets and servants entombed with them to prepare for the afterlife.  What do Christians think of that?

Not that I was interested in the cookie diet, but the inclusion of soy protein rules it right out.  "Incompatible" is the quickest way for me to describe my problem with it.

There was an iteresting rerun of This American Life on our local NPR station today about the health care system.  It is worth a listen.  It is disappointing that, in the current debate over HCR, we have largely missed the opportunity to discuss substantive issues.

The last time I remember a woman being significant in baseball was Marge Schott.  Let's just say that it came as no surprise that she was from Cincinnati.

I don't know the personal or professional politics of the McCourts, but it should be an educational story.  I don't know much about how teams are owned or managed.

Finished Watching Bon Jovi (none / 0) (#14)

It's an interesting look at a big band going on tour and you can see what it takes out of them. It's not all glamour. I recorded it onto dvd so I can convert it on the computer to mp4 and then upload it to my ipod and watch while i'm on the spin bike and treadmill. It was a big project, filming them in Dubai, Berlin, London, and twice in New york. The other band members got a lot of talk time too.

Now I'm reading The Help. It's a novel about white women and their African-American housekeepers in the 60's. Each chapter is told from one of the women's point of view.

Set during the nascent civil rights movement in Jackson, Miss., where black women were trusted to raise white children but not to polish the household silver. Eugenia Skeeter Phelan is just home from college in 1962, and, anxious to become a writer, is advised to hone her chops by writing about what disturbs you. The budding social activist begins to collect the stories of the black women on whom the country club sets relies and mistrusts enlisting the help of Aibileen, a maid who's raised 17 children, and Aibileen's best friend Minny, who's found herself unemployed more than a few times after mouthing off to her white employers. The book Skeeter puts together based on their stories is scathing and shocking, bringing pride and hope to the black community, while giving Skeeter the courage to break down her personal boundaries and pursue her dreams. Assured and layered, full of heart and history, this one has bestseller written all over it.

It's a page turner and hard to put down. See you all tomorrow.
