but if you have the highest payroll in baseball every single year, year after year, eventually it can buy you a trip to the World series.

    Go Phillies!

The aviation family tends to be small first of all, so I never want to look at dead pilot's names.  And secondly, my husband is serving in that area in administration.  One reason why I think I have no problems ever in dealing with a BTD post is that I think I live with someone very much like him.  My spouse is a very very good critical thinking, but has zero tact when he tells people how they are effed up when lives are on the line.  When I spoke to him yesterday I told him I had a bunch of Hickory Farms things to send and he says yes, please, send them and keep it coming because I need offerings.  I know exactly what this means after five job changes.  When he got on the ground, he threw his stuff where they told him to and he went right to work.  He slept going over there I guess.  But this is all a huge puzzle to him, so he goes right to work and after seven days on and his gears grinding he went around and told everyone he works with where they were effing up :)  This always goes over like a lead balloon.  And then usually something happens that has to do with the failings he noted, and if someone got hurt he is UPSET.  He's a pain in the arse anyhow.  If he can't find where he thinks administration messed up (because that is all he can advise and control at this time) he will figure out what they could do in similar situations that could have improved things and blah blah blah blah.  Both of these incidents went down in areas he's likely working in.  I had better send lots of Hickory Farms.  I'm certain that more helicopters are needed, it's the ground troops that need more damned people and boots though.  And I cringe for them as well, just not today.  Probably tomorrow

your husband. No organization wants to be told it's screwed up, military or civilian. It took me 10 years to figure that out about the military and just leave and probably 10 more before I understood it about corporations and learned  how to survive and prosper. Our church is sending packages. One of the members said that her son wrote that the PX has three shelves, all empty.

Thank God we have people like your husband fighting to keep us free so that we can disagree about politics. Tell him an old guy is pulling for him and that I said to remember the rule is check everything three times and then expect things to go wrong in bunches. But I expect he knows that.

I watched the playoff game last night.

After a tense game, the Yankees had won.
    It was hard fought.

    The Yanks were really happy.

On to the field comes the commentator - either from Fox or ESPN - gets to Derek Jeter.

Does he say something like, "Congratulations on a great game and for getting to the World Series!"?

    Oh no.

He says, "You haven't been to a series since 2005 and you haven't won one since 2000."

Jeter looks at this guy and says something like "Thanks for focusing on the negative"....

But I consistently see this from these media people.

I don't understand the psychology behind it but it feels really repressive and nasty.

    Anyway.
It seems as if athletes are used to dealing with these bozos.

The even more difficult part is when they put something in the minds of the athletes before the game. "You've never beaten - - - -  before. What makes you think you can this time?" Stuff like that.

    I just don't get it.
It seems so devoid of compassion.

    bear in mind, (5.00 / 1) (#22)

these are the same village idiots that, for the past 8 years, told us how wonderful the bush administration was.

the media did not, repeat did not, tell us how wonderful Bush was. In fact, they went out of their way to do the exact opposite.

So beat'em up if you like (I'll hold your coat) but do it with facts rather than completely wrong claims.
