March Madness

The No. 1 seeds are Louisville (Midwest), Pittsburgh (East), North Carolina (South) and Connecticut (West). The Midwest region winner will play the West region winner and the East region winner will play the South region winner in the Final Four semis.

Talk about it here.

If I recall correctly, in the 1980s they sent Georgetown to the West in many years because the East #1 seed was always UNC or Duke. There just aren't that many good teams west of the Rockies, certainly no one playing up to the caliber of the four #1 seeds.

    to just ignore the oddities.

But it does get stranger.  Some first round games in the East regional are being played in Boise along with some first round games in the West regional.

to have to fly to Idaho, is it?  That's where two of my almae mater are playing in the first round -- and no, I never went to college west of the Mississippi River.

Both of my schools are in the Midwest yet playing in the NCAA's West, too.  But we're not complaining . . . because neither will get out of Idaho alive and survive past the first round, anyway.  So it's just for the fun of it -- that is, if spending spring break on the beaches of Idaho meets anyone's definition of fun. :-)

Marquette in the  West regional playing the first round in Boise and Wisconsin in the East regional also playing the first round in Boise.

Don't sell either short.  They may both come out of Boise intact.  Wisconsin appears to have the toughest assignment of the two but no one is unbeatable and remember that Florida State lost to Northwestern in December.

First round East regional in Boise is past wierd.

will be with the Cinderella Bisons. Number 14 seed North Dakota State will have my rooting interests as long as they survive. And what an upset it will be if they can take down the Jayhawks.
