for all the laughs -- and the poignant moments in his movies, too.  A remarkable talent; may he be with us for a long time . . . no doubt to tell hilarious stories about his time in hospital!

I'll never forget my grandfather, always one to joke, on his death bed telling the doctors his only allergy was "George W. Bush".

Laughter is the best medicine.  I wish Robin Williams the best.

You can't keep up the intensity levels of your youth at this age. Even when your young touring schedules can kill you if you don't take care of yourself.

Have a speedy recovery Robin. And slow it down.

is in Robin Williams' vocabulary...that guy is a ball of energy.

Imagine if he was a child today? Somebody would suggest prescribing enough ADD drugs to kill a horse.

his age is a factor. In youth our nervous systems aren't fully developed and matured so we're running around all over the place at full speed. When your older your nervous system is matured or "shot" in some cases so you have to be careful not to blow your whole neurological system to pieces. Once that goes everything else follows.

    Bush just had.

Won't be back at work for awhile, afaik.  He'll need to do physical therapy after healing enough, as I believe the chest is opened.

A friend of my mothers' had open heart surgery and wasn't able to get sufficient PT, for whatever reason was unclear to me, but it resulted in her not being able to stand up straight. Apparently, without sufficient stretching and PT, the chest muscles tighten up and pull the shoulders forward.

She was a beautiful woman, still beautiful as she got older, and not being able to wear her clothes as well as she used to really undermined her overall confidence.

That and the doc telling her that she must never drive again bcz she might have heart problems without warning and might hurt other people. This GP told all his heart patients to not drive -- most ignore him on that, but she was of the era when doctors were demigods. Alas.

I had open heart surgery to replace a part of my aorta. It was in 2005 and at the time I was 59.  The surgeon was not sure if I would also need a new valve until he got in there but I did not.  He basically replaced my aorta from where it connected to my heart to about half way up toward the curve.
(My sister, cousin and aunt all had acute aortic splits that killed two of them and nearly killed the third...it is a genetic problem in our family).

I had surgery on a Wednesday, and 24 hours after surgery I was able to walk out of ICU and to a regular room. I went home on Sunday.  Within two weeks I could walk two miles (I walked a lot before surgery).

Yes, my sternum was sore and I did have muscle spasms in my back....but they lessened with time.  It really amazed me at how quickly I recovered.
I doubt if Robin Williams will be able to go on tour for months, but if he is in overall good health there is a chance he will recover quickly.
I only did four sessions of PT....and it worked for me.

before Thanksgiving. She was up and walking soon after also. She was starting with just a few blocks and building up to getting back to full speed. She also drives etc. Her work is fairly physical, so she had that going for her up front. Luckily, part of her work isn't physical, so she could do that until she was back in full (self employed).

When I went in I was scared and honestly did not know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised that recovery, for me anyway, was not all that traumatic.

The pain was much less than when I had my gall bladder removed 30 years ago. I always laugh because as soon as I got back to my room from ICU, they asked me if I was hungry and I was like...'YEA, I have not eaten in over 24 hours..."  and they all seemed surprised when I ordered a full lunch of fish, mac and cheese and broccoli.

I hope Robin Williams fares as well as I did.

two years ago from complications in heart surgery -- that must make this worrisome for Williams.  Yes, this surgery now is routine in some cases.  But not all.  Never in all, not in any surgery.

He is such a bright light. Although, reports are that he'll be back to work on Monday and is not in intensive care. With today's news media and privacy laws, it's tough to know if he's really in ICU or not.

While I don't think the government should be in the marriage business at all and believe any adults (or with parental consent) should be allowed to marry - including same sex, polygamy, incest, or anything I've left out - I do think we would be better served if the decision came either from the legislative branch or through the electoral process. Marriage is a choice made by people unlike say sexual orientation or skin color.
