President Obama's choice for Surgeon General, Dr. withdrew his name from consideration today.

CNN cited his desire to continue working instead as a neurosurgeon and CNN medical analyst. His wife is pregnant with their third child.

Chuck Todd said on Nightly News tonight it may have been a financial decision: it would be too big a pay cut.

    I must admit, I can't wait to read the leaks about Dr. Gupta's financial and moral conflicts of interests as a surgeon, a CNN "reporter," and a mouthpiece for privatized medicine ("all your health problems are belong to me!"),

    In my wildest imagination, Dr. Gupta has little self-conscious about the conflicts of his personal interests and his ideological bent against affordable, subsidized health care... and, the administration was shocked by what it learned about the good doctor!

    I admit, I am seeking a little Schadenfreude after his mistreatment of Michael Moore and the "facts" in Sicko...

    This isn't very credible, surely? Didn't he figure out it would be a pay cut way early in the game?

    The last thing we need is someone in charge of public health whose biggest concern isn't our health but his paycheck.

    I really don't care why, I'm just glad Gupta is no longer in the running.

    a working neurosurgeon and his contract with CNN, Gupta also gives paid lectures for around 40K per time.

    He should have invested that chunk of change and he'd be set for a temporary pay cut.

    but he never did answer Michael Moore about the inaccurate things he/Gupta said about "Sicko."

    Not to pile on, but there's also this.

    What concerns me most is this part:

    "Aside from Mr. Geithner, the department doesn't have a single nominated official in place."

    I think he's very presentable but in that little debate with Michael Moore, he didn't come off too well. Overall, I thought he was more like a smooth-talking politico than a medical doctor.
