The NYTimes reported:

The new information on the number of waterboarding episodes [of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and Abu Zubaydah] came out over the weekend when a number of bloggers, including Marcy Wheeler of the blog emptywheel, discovered it in the May 30, 2005, memo.

CIA interrogators used the waterboarding technique on Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the admitted planner of the September 11 attacks, 183 times and 83 times on another al Qaeda suspect, The New York Times said on Sunday.

The New York Times reported Marcy Wheeler broke the story. Reuters should have too.

    And now AP will cite Reuters on the story and sue anyone who quotes more than three words of the story or uses the AP's new proprietary word combinations of "183 times" or "83 times."

    I noticed that in the story, too, and was surprised, but pleased.

    Would it not seem preposterous if America could watch on C-Span members of Congress get Attorney General Gonzales, or Vice President Cheney or President Bush in a committee investigation while slamming them against the wall or shackle them to the wall while asking questions to get the truth? We want low taxes...Slam bang. Or who is your biggest lobbyist donor slam bang...  

    Well its not torture it just supposed be advanced interrogation techniques. Why can't America get Newt Gingrich water Boarded to get to the real truth about the Republican agenda? Since it good conversation and advance ideas in talking perhaps America needs water boarding in the Congressional and Senate debates. Especially in filibustering shackled to the wall with sleep deprivation and, periodic wall slamming. At minimum two hundred water boarding episodes documented with family members participating for good measure.

    Or how about water boarding Cheney from now on till he tells America the truth about the secret money he made in the Iraq war.

    Rep. Jane Harman , the California Democrat with a longtime involvement in intelligence issues, was overheard on an NSA wiretap telling a suspected Israeli agent that she would lobby the Justice Department to reduce espionage-related charges against two officials of the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee, the most powerful pro-Israel organization in Washington.

    Harman was recorded saying she would "waddle into" the AIPAC case "if you think it'll make a difference," according to two former senior national security officials familiar with the NSA transcript.

    In exchange for Harman's help, the sources said, the suspected Israeli agent pledged to help lobby Nancy Pelosi , D-Calif., then-House minority leader, to appoint Harman chair of the Intelligence Committee after the 2006 elections, which the Democrats were heavily favored to win.

    Seemingly wary of what she had just agreed to, according to an official who read the NSA transcript, Harman hung up after saying, "This conversation doesn't exist."

    Its like calling a NFL player an "exerciser." Yes, many people write online, but there needs to be a better term to differentiate the wheat (the writing that BTD does) and the chaff (the writing that I do in response to BTD).  I think it would be better to just refer to them like you would any other writer -- as "online writers" and when you refer to them specifically, say "Marci Wheeler is a writer for the political analysis website Empty Wheel"

    there are writers and then there are "linkers."  Sometimes one person practices both forms of blogging.  I prefer the writers.
