We don't really need another open thread yet, but American Idol is on and the Denver Nuggets are in the playoffs. 47 million people voted last night in AI. My prediction: Allison or Matt goes home tonight. I hope it's Matt.

Update: Adam is in the bottom two with Matt. Really a surprise. Next, Matt goes home, not a surprise.

    passed the budget with 53 votes.

    Arlen Spector voted no along with 4 other Dems.

    But it passed.

    voting against your party's budget gets you punished. You'd think that as the newest Dem in the Senate, Specter would play ball and vote for this one.

    show tonight with FOUR MINUTES of sound bites of Obama and others from the last 100 days with that scary, ominous opening music from Carmina Burana ("O, Fortuna") at increasing volume underneath.

    Wayyy over the top, even for Hannity.  These people are absolutely scared s**tless they're never, ever going to get back in the game.

    Reminds me of Mike Barnicle's line in the Globe years ago about a failed former Mass. governor, "Like the Titanic, he's so far under water it isn't worth the dive to find out if there's anything of value left."

    than for the republican party to become completely irrelevant, and for the Dems to break into two parties, with one being truly left.

    But that might just be the wine talking.

    was up on Hannity (don't ask me why I had to watch this crap, long story) first and talked increasingly hysterically for the whole segment, not even making an attempt to make his lies plausible.  For the first time I've heard him post-Bush, he actually sounded panicky.

    After that came Michael Steele, who just sounded incoherent and pointless, as usual.

    That was followed by a "where are they now" bit on Obama's "disgraced" nominees, but Hannity had to throw Judd Gregg in, too, since he didn't have enough "disgraces" to make up a segment.

    To wrap up the first half hour, there was a string of Joe Biden's "greatest hits," sound bites of various silly gaffes and awkwardnesses, to which Hannity snickered that maybe Obama should lend him one of his teleprompters.

    Hannity now closes each half hour of his show by looking sadly and sincerely into the camera and saying, "Let not your heart be troubled."

    Alan Colmes was a sock puppet (friend of mine used to refer to their show as "Blabbity and Moans"), but Hannity unrestrained is just outright pathetic.

    and think she's a great singer. I have said I hope the final three are Adam, Danny and Allison. It's just that I think the final two will be Adam and Danny or Adam and Chris.

    At this stage, as they kept saying tonight, they are all winners and will have singing careers ahead of them.

    I wonder if Adam got less votes because too many people thought he's a shoo-in and didn't need their vote.

    the NBA until the Finals. Baseball on the other hand I can watch all the time. You sent me rushing to google for tetrapturus albidus. Well done.

    As for my beloved Pescado, I have canceled my doctor's appointment in Oregon. Euthanasia is no longer necessary. I only wish it wasn't at the expense of the Metropolitans...my next favorite team in the National League.

    One thing for sure, when Johan pitches against the Marlins the rest of his team plays less like Mighty Metropolitans and more like melted neopolitan.

    ...you are most likely correct judging from what I can find on the distribution of each.  But it is hard to tell if they're white or blue with that baseball hat on.  

    Either way, they're both pretty tasty on the grill.  A nice complement to a neopolitan dessert.  

    It is a shame when a good pitching performance gets wasted.

    The Metropolitan is having a free weekend starting 5:00 PM Friday for its Met Player, where you can play any of the dozens of archived TV and radio and HD full performances they have available.

    Texas. Fort Worth ISD announced closure of all schools in the district, until May 8. Two confirmed cases and 11 probable in the county. They are also urging parents to not take their children to daycare.

    three cases in my border state of Wisconsin, two cases in my city -- just those confirmed, many more being tested, especially in several schools that now are closed until further notice.  One of the schools is about half a mile from us. . . .

    But I remain firmly convinced that this flu already hit our house -- as I noted here before, my incredibly energetic spouse was laid low about two weeks ago and even spent a day in bed, a sight never before seen on this good earth.  And he still is coming back from the nastiest bug ever.  

    Not that he has been to Mexico or anywhere south of here lately -- but many of his students went to Cancun and the like for spring break, and he came down with the bug a couple of weeks later.  My son also had it, a milder case.  I've been fighting off a cough and think I've got the bug beat, probably exposed to some form of it eons ago when I used to catch everything that came along.

    we have 51 confirmed, but they are only testing what could be new clusters etc. All the others are just being noted. We're in the hundreds at the few schools that are closed so far.

    Where are the wildfires there? To me, those sound just as pressing as the flu. But then again, I'm a CA gal and have a bit of experience with them . . .
