Osama bin Laden Releases Tape Criticizing Obama

Al-Jazeera reports that Osama bin Laden has released a tape critical of the U.S. and President Barack Obama.

It reported Bin Laden as saying that Obama was continuing in the steps of his predecessor, George Bush, and warning Americans to be prepared for the consequences of the White House's policies.

News of the recording came after Obama arrived in Saudi Arabia at a start of a trip that will also take him to Egypt, where he will deliver an eagerly awaited speech at Cairo University.

The New York Times has more details: [More...]

The message focused on President Obama’s decision to step up pressure on extremists in Pakistan. The speaker specifically blamed the president for the Pakistani military’s drive to retake an area in the Swat Valley that had recently come under the control of Taliban forces. He blamed Mr. Obama for the “one million Muslims” who have had to flee their homes because of the fighting. United Nations and Pakistani officials estimate that as many as three million people have been displaced by the conflict.

this a challenge to prove Bin Laden wrong.

So far when it comes to the war, Bin Laden is right...although Obama's doing more Pepsi-fying of the situation than Bush did.

After all, elections, uh, wars and Guantanamos are all about the marketing, right?  Same policy, different marketing strategy.

to stamp out Afghani opium production, I like the idea of helping build pharmaceutical factories to turn the opium into morphine instead of heroin.  It would cost a lot less to supply hospitals in the third world with free or low-cost morphine for the many sick, injured, and dying who now lack effective pain relief, than to try to carry out a hopeless campaign to stamp out Afghanistan's traditional primary crop.

if OBL were to release a tape praising Obama, or any other American. But, if he exists, he absolutely had to make a statement with Obama visiting is homeland.

I have a hard time believing there even is an OBL out there.
