Monday Morning Open Thread

Fun fact of the day - Florida opened as a 28.5 point favorite over Tennessee for the Saturday game at The Swamp.

Second fun fact of the day - even Ezra Klein says "[a] solid 55 percent of the country supports 'having the government create a new health insurance plan to compete with private health insurance plans.' That supports jumps to 76 percent if the option is reserved for those unable to get health insurance now." (Emphasis supplied.) Can the Village (with an assist from the "progressive" blogosphere) really stymie 76% of Americans? Time will tell.

This is an Open Thread.

and that little girl is a real cutie.

You know, the #1 student in my law school class, tops among some really smart people, was the mom of 3 school-age kids.  I asked her how she did it, considering the typical student has so many more hours in the day to study than she did.  She told me that kids take a lot of your time, but they also have a way of making you much more FOCUSED on whatever it is you need to do.  So true.

over at FDL highlights some interesting stats on the public option.  For ex.:

"Year after year, business leaders have watched health care costs consume a larger part of their budgets and our economy, and they want action," said Business Forward Executive Director Jim Doyle. "This poll reminds us why it is so important for business leaders, trade groups, regulators, Congress and the President to stay at the negotiating table." The poll, conducted by Anzalone Liszt Research in advance of President Obama's address to Congress, showed that 57% of business leaders believe health care reform should be an important government policy. They support key elements of a reform plan, including insurance exchange (78% favorable), efficiency reforms and an oversight commission (71%), requiring insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions (79%) and a public health option (51%).

"At a time when many Americans are worried about partisanship on both sides, this support is significant, because it comes from a group -- business leaders -- that is disproportionately Republican," said Doyle.[emphasis supplied]

at the Labor Day party and while the guys all had instances of passing out from sudden/unexpected pain, no women could say the same.  I think the genders are wired differently for some things.  I've fainted exactly once.

Low BP can't be a reason.  When I first started giving blood, my BP and temp ran so low, they'd ask me if I was feeling all right.  Later when I found out about the statistical sampling used to actually determine normal ranges, it made more sense.  There's nothing wrong with being on either end of the range if you aren't passing out or stroking out.

The New York Times, the newspaper of record, tells us that there is a new message from Bin Laden.

It offers two phrases from this ten minute message. One stating that Obama is beholden to the same interests as his predecessor and so is captive to the continuing wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The second says that the US continues to aid Israel in occupying lands that rightfully belong to the Palestinians.

Of the ten minute message, that's all the old Grey Lady sees fit to communicate.

Personally, I would like to know what this guy is thinking about.
But, hey, I'm just a citizen. It's good to keep me in the dark.

interceptions Saturday? He had 2 against Western Kentucky, 3 (in a row!) against UCLA plus one in the end zone the officials ruled the guy dropped plus one called back for defensive offsides. So that was really 5. Not counting a few that should have been intercepted.

I think we should put Eric Berry in as a receiver and tell Crompton to throw to Gator DB's and let Berry "intercept" a pass.

Tennessee has a good defense but has no depth and since you guys will have the ball about 40 minutes, plus your defense will score, I would give the points.

I think Tennessee should punt on first down . . . I kid.

Tennessee has to play smashmouth and run the ball all day. Even on 3rd and 10. Especially on 3rd and 10.

I like him BTD. I don't know yet if he can coach. You know I was a Fulmer fan and didn't want him fired but Kiffin won me over.

I know he acted like an as* during the first few months but look at all the attention UT got. He is actually a very quiet man. He must get his personality from his mother because he is nothing like his dad. He's a hoot.

He can recruit, you have to admit that. I don't hold the Raiders against him (yet). Crazy owner and he was too young to be given the job to begin with.

It is clear Kiffin never understood what big program Tennessee is. It did not need his shenanigans to get attention.

Tennessee just needs to win and they will be back on top.

My gawd, the guy acted like Tennessee was Rutgers or something.

I hope his assistants help bring him along some. The players love him. I know no matter how far behind they get, they won't quit this time. Their butts will be benched if they do.

I don't know who else they could have gotten. The guy at Washington? The only other names I heard were the guy at Cincinnati and whats his name at Texas Tech. And Butch Davis at NC who isn't any step up from Fulmer in my opinion. Maybe they should have done this a few years earlier and got Saban before Bama did.

last plays when we were on the march.... No QB keeper/bootleg...no sweep... no pass... just two line bucks... that's as dumb as dirt and Kiffin as much as admitted it... Plus, you can beat up on Crompton but his receivers did him no favors..

with all this back stuff going on. It makes my arms go numb. I had to show up for Florida week so BTD doesn't think I'm chicken!

So far, on our message boards, we'd be happy to settle for a 28 point loss. :)

I see your Hawkeyes are 2-0. Not bad so far.

...but we've got a tough Arizona squad this Saturday and then travel to Happy Valley to face Penn State to open Big Ten play.  A daunting task--I won't be surprised of we're sitting at .500 after those games.

Is the back getting any better?

I've got spinal stenosis (narrowing of spinal cord) in 16 discs. 3 are so bad it has fractured the bones. I need a new spine! With junk insurance, I'm doomed. At least I can watch football with my heating pad.

Plus Kdog would be jealous of my drugs. :)

I will be pulling for your Hawkeyes. I actually rooted for Michigan Saturday to shut up Lou Holtz and the other ND worshippers.

MileHi, just pull for us to stay within 25 points. I'd settle for that right now. I feel bad for Jon Crompton but I've truly never seen a worse quarterback in an actual game. We only have one real backup and two different sets of coaches have chosen Crompton so Stevens must not be so hot either.

Rooting against Florida is as natural as breathing...

It's early yet.  Our "experienced" QB hasn't looked at all comfortable in the first two games.  Heck, the same fans that helped run-off our old QB are now wishing he would come back.  Thankfully we have a pretty decent defense to save our bacon.

Glad to hear you're adjusting.  That's about all we can do sometimes--know our limitations, play the card we're dealt and try to live life the best we can.
