Sunday Morning Football Open Thread

My NFL picks today (I am 6-4 on the season (.600 winning percentage):

The J-E-T-Ss host Tennessee (+2.5). The spell is broken and the Titans, holders of the original New York AFL franchise's name, win outright.

The Brett Favres host the up and coming Niners in the Metrodome. I like the Favres (-6.5), because their defense is too good for the Niners.

In my other selections, I like the Seahawks (-2.5), Denver (-2), and Arizona (-2.5).

This is an Open Thread dedicated to the speedy recovery of Tim Tebow (snark).

I can feel it!  The Lions are going to beat the Redskins!  They will avoid being only the 2nd team to lose 20 in a row.

Yay Lions!  Listening to the game, I literally thought I was going to have a heart attack in that final minute when Washington was moving.  Which would not have been good, as I am at work.

As the Lions' radio announcer sai, "The nightmare is over!"

    On this sunny day.

This sunny day following a rainy day.

since if the game was in Wisconsin, it would be played outdoors in almost 80-degree weather today -- and with a drive to the stadium amid gorgeous fall color.  (Of course, fall is coming soon enough, with a high of little more than 60 degrees tomorrow.)

Anyway, with nature at its finest -- fall color and summer weather -- I find it hard to care who wins a football game . . . because we already won the weather game (a game that is year-round here :-).

I haven't been really paying close attention to the Giants, so that's why I asked. The only concern I had was it was a road game. Washington always lets me down, so I had that going in. Whenever I have one of their players on my team, it's their worst year ever, or they have nagging injuries and barely perform/play. If the Lions start winning though, they're gonna make it hard for me, lol!~ We've got money on this and I'm trying to win for my coming great-nephew.  ;)

the Detroit Lions finally win one...on the other hand, maybe the Redskins will have found a team that makes them look good.

I agree with the Titans pick today; I think they are beside themselves at being 0-2.  The Jets might be believing the press reports too much, and come in a little too cocky - but I notice Rex Ryan hasn't been providing any bulletin board material this week.  The Jets-tampering-with-Crabtree accusation might be one reason they've been a little quiet.

We've got the Browns coming to Baltimore today for a divisional game that - fingers crossed - should be a win for the Ravens, assuming they don't have too much of a letdown from last week's win over the Bolts.  It poured rain from late afternoon yesterday, and through the night, and is still kind of drizzly, so it may be more of a running day than a passing one.  We'll see.
It probably won't help the Browns that the team allegedly cannot stand Eric Mangini - it's never good on the field when that kind of stuff is brewing off the field.

Yeah, I'm ready for some football!

I just love football, but every time I see an injury like that, I wonder what's wrong with me. But football is such a smart game; there are so many facets to it (I still have much to learn about how the game is played), and the athleticism of the players amazes me.

So there you have it, and I'm sitting on the couch switching back and forth between 49ers/Vikings and Jets/Titans.

I really don't think he's going to be the same this year.  This is the one injury that gets worse every year as players get bigger and stronger and faster.  And it's the one part of the body you can't work out into better shape and strength.  I wish him the best, but truthfully, I think Florida would be wise to sit him for an extended period.  Unfortunately, what matters first is not the health of the player, it's wins and losses and revenue.

As we who rooted for St. Kilda struggle through again.  See what you missed, silly fans of only one kind of football:

For the Saints, heartbreak continues to define them. The club has now lost three grand finals since its sole 1966 premiership. But this was the one that got away. The agony on captain Nick Riewoldt's face after the final siren, Luke Ball's tears and the contorted emotions on the damaged face of the warrior Brendon Goddard were as graphic as any exposed in the raw, dreadful moments that follow a narrow grand final defeat.  ''We'll be back,'' vowed a more composed Riewoldt to his shattered army of supporters.

Ah, well.  Time to look ahead and dream for our number-one team.  Go Essenden Bombers!

Arbitrarily bench for a playoff game the seasoned veteran and proven leader who lead the team to a winning season in favor of unknown quanity. What kind of message does that send to the rest of the team -- who, on top of everything else, probobly disagreed with the move-- "Thanks for efforts this year, but what have you done for us lately"

Start Flutie at least, and then, if he effs up, maybe put in Johnson. Possibly.

As for Kevin Bacon, I can't do 6 degrees but I can spout gibberish. The house used for Delta House was filmed in Eugene, Oregon and the University of Oregon lost to Boise State who lost last season to TCU and TCU lost last season to Oklahoma who lost to BYU this year and that's enough for me.
