Looking at the flowers, the TL Kid has good taste. He got it from his mother, of course. The day in Denver was beautiful (as I'm sure you knew.) A wonderful fresh and almost-crisp early autumn day.  Happy Birthday!

Thanks, everyone for the happy birthday wishes. Between here and Facebook, I've never gotten so many! As I just wrote there, it's really hard to accept a new decade starting, and one that's so.....old, but the thought that you all took the time to stop by to say hi really brought a smile to my face. And it's turned out to be a happy day after all. Again, many thanks.

(And yes, the TL kid is just the best son ever. He's like a best friend and a kid all wrapped into one, and he even gave up Monday Night Football to spend the evening with me. )

    Happy Birthday/New Decade!!! (5.00 / 1) (#22)

I have officially just joined you in both  ;) OY!

I've decided to embrace my new discounts. Eyeglasses, hotel rooms and rent-a-cars. I'll be using all, lol!~

TL Kid has excellent taste in flowers and scores major points in knowing when to give up MNF ;) Glad you had a good time and here's to a great year ahead and many more for the 2 of you :)

I've started to enjoy the beginning of new decades of my life, if only for the vain reason that I'm the youngest of a new cohort (e.g., I'm the youngest of those in their 40s)!  Happy, happy!

Food for thought.  The problem is there won't be enough regulation on the inurance companies.

Here's to the deep, mellow, glow that some just start to get at this age that you've obviously had for a while: wisdom, grace and passion in just the right amounts.

    And heres to many more.

Police officer who attacked 15 year old girl in her cell has been fired, and is being brought to trial for assault.

It's not often I read that an out of control police officer is fired, let alone put on trial.

    Re John Frankenheimer...dinner or drinks!?

By the time I got home tonight to respond to you both, the thread was full and closed...so hope you find this response.

Yes, Inspector...you're right...drinks but not dinner seems backwards, considering that John was an alcoholic and it nearly destroyed his life and career.  Not sure I'd want to spend an entire evening with him (dinner)...I'm not sure he liked women, although his third marriage seemed to take and get him through after a bad breakdown.  I don't think his friends, for the most part, were people I'd want to know or spend time with socially (Frank Sinatra?)  His work?  Loved it.

    Hope you enjoyed it!

Now on to politics and a question for all out there - wasn't Richard Cohen of the Washington Post a big Obama apologist during the campaign?  I found this latest column of his a bit, odd, considering the source:

The trouble with Obama is that he gets into the moment and means what he says for that moment only. He meant what he said when he called Afghanistan a "war of necessity" -- and now is not necessarily so sure. He meant what he said about the public option in his health care plan -- and then again maybe not. He would not prosecute CIA agents for getting rough with detainees -- and then again maybe he would.

Most tellingly, he gave Congress an August deadline for passage of health care legislation -- "Now, if there are no deadlines, nothing gets done in this town ..." -- and then let it pass. It seemed not to occur to Obama that a deadline comes with a consequence -- meet it or else.

Obama lost credibility with his deadline-that-never-was and now he threatens to lose some more with his posturing toward Iran. He has gotten into a demeaning dialogue with Ahmadinejad, an accomplished liar. (The next day, the Iranian used a news conference to counter Obama and, days later, Iran tested some intermediate-range missiles.) Obama is our version of a Supreme Leader, not given to making idle threats, setting idle deadlines, reversing course on momentous issues, creating a TV crisis where none existed or, unbelievably, pitching Chicago for the 2016 Olympics. Obama's the president. Time he understood that.
