I'm blogged out. And the season premiere of The Biggest Loser is on. One of the contestants is 526 pounds.

    Something tells that "magic" 60 seat majority will be gone next year.

    Given that an actual Democrat bringing forth a bill that Democrats would be proud of ten years ago is getting shot down in flames, is this actually a year a Dem wants to fight the good fight in a race?  Would your constituency be best served by and receive more consideration via your Democrat butt or Olympia Snowes.

    He's a committed progressive, union supporter, and has been hammering all on his show for the past two months re the failures in the health care bill.

    He is not a hack, imo. He's a hunyack perhaps, and doesn't fit the coastal elite model, but then there you go then.

    in my litter this year.  And it was an important litter that I was not planning on repeating.  It was a really rough time to only have UNO baby girl.  But wow is she shaping up and not even quite six weeks old yet.  Gorgeous little face, nice earset, can't tell about the rest of her conformation but it is her mommma who has the goods in that department and the genes are extremely dominant.  She loves people....I want to take her with me everywhere I go right now but she's really too little yet, not even weaned or had her first shot.

    Tonight was the final game for 17 Hawkeye seniors (Pat Angerer, Kyle Calloway, Joe Conklin, Dan Doering, AJ Edds, Rafael Eubanks, Chad Geary, Bryce Griswold, Taylor Herbst, Andy Kuempel, Travis Meade, Tony Moeaki, Jayme Murphy, Dace Richardson, Chris Rowell, Kyle Spading and Trey Stross).

    Of the starters, a couple of LB's, the TE, a WR and a a few offensive linemen will be gone.  But, having so many injuries this year, the back-ups are game tested and ready to go.  Coach Kirk is an O-line wizard, so no worries there.  Plus, we get Jewell Hampton back at RB, so we'll be well stocked there.

    Editorials are the paper's opinion - the page opposite has the "outsiders'" opinions.

    I know these people believe they're using their celebrity in a cause they believe in, BUT, it soils our discourse by politicizing people and institutions that are better left outside the political realm.

    But tearing into the social fabric never seems to occur to anyone anymore.

    IMO the same goes for any celebrity in any mode of entertainment.

    mentioned in that article are an interesting group. Sounds like Gillibrand is turning out to be too liberal for the corporate wing NY's Democratic Party.

    I actually feel a little bit better about Gillibrand after reading that story.

    Yeah, 526 pounds. But (a) if you're poor, subsidies for HFCS and lack of your basic Whole Foods infrastructure make "bad" eating habits a rational calorie-maximizing strategy and (b) I'm getting powerfully tired of opinion makers shoving the systemic problems with our health system off onto "the other," especially the poor, who do (see point (a)), tend to be fat, and therefore easy to demonize.

    Now, if these guys wanted a real loser, they'd be putting up Lloyd Blankfein, Goldman Sachs CEO, whose gang of thieves sold $40 billion in mortgage-backed securities to the rubes while secretly betting their value would collapse (McClatchy)

    So why isn't Blankfein getting pilloried on the teebee, instead of some schlub? I wonder why...

    Hawkeyes dominate the Orange Bowl, Shanahan signs on to coach the Redskins (can two ego-centric, control freaks get along together?), Randy Johnson finally retires and Ritter shocks everyone by withdrawing for the Gov race.

    I'm worn out all over again just thinking about it.

    Had a lengthy criminal record, and should have been in prison for killing his brother, but his sentence was reduced on appeal.

    But for that darn corrupt government who actually wanted him locked up!
