Paladino Denies He's a Homophobe

Carl Paladino steps in more dog poop. He says:

"That's not how God created us," Paladino said of being gay, "and that's not the example that we should be showing our children." ....."I don't want [children] to be brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option," he said.

On the other hand, Paladino says:

"My feelings on homosexuality are unequivocal; I have absolutely no problem with it whatsoever. My only reservation is marriage."

And, Paladino insists, "he would recruit gays to serve in his administration and currently has homosexual staffers working on his campaign."

Just what New York needs, another politician who talks out of both sides of his mouth. If his views don't sink him, this pathetic attempt to two-step will.

Take your pick. He's a homophobe or a lying, two-faced politician with a trust factor of zero. 30 days until this clown fades into oblivion.

onto a couple of endangered Dems (like John Hall) who we will lose otherwise. Apathetic Dems will turn out to vote just in case Paladino has a shot, he's that detestable. No one would have cared about Lazio much.

the other; for my money, he's probably a homophobe AND someone learning how to be a lying two-faced politician (he is new at this, so if he's not as smooth at the lying part, that's probably why).

Seems to me there are so many more truly pressing issues of concern to people - jobs, the economy, health care - that the personal, private stuff - sexual orientation, abortion, etc. - shouldn't even be part of the discussion, but what do I know?

As the saying goes, he sure is protesting way too much.

His summation:

I have absolutely no problem with it whatsoever. My only reservation is marriage.

If IIRC, he kicked this whole issue into high gear by giving a speech that basically was preaching against teaching tolerance in schools. That this speech was given right after high profile cases of young people committing suicide due to bullying from their class mates is IMO inexcusable.

I very much doubt that he would reflexively call, e.g., a Puerto Rican parade "disgusting." (IMO, that was the comment that cemented the damage--which was already undoable anyway).

was to say that people like him, who go out their way to express contempt for homosexuals are as often as not repressed homosexuals themselves.
With folks in elected office, this is a pattern that is oft times repeated.
He should find the right guy and settle down.

the events at which he did this performance were (at least a couple of them were) closed to women.

I cant help but wonder if this had been a Muslim group having political events from which women were banned that we would be hearing a lot about that.

having to talk about his welfare-queening on steroids...Carl would rather answer questions about homophobia all day long than having to answer to why & how he made his fortune on the backs of NYS taxpayers...the homophobia plays in some circles, his exploitation of the government teet is exactly what his anti-state "base" despises...any wedge issue distraction from that is gold to the Crazy Carl campaign.

part is not a big concern for him or his "campaign".
he is hardly the only one bringing up the subject this season. the tea baggers do not seem to have gotten the memo that we have moved past all that.

DeMint is preaching that no gays should be allowed to teach in public school and he is not even running this year. the "witch" built her career such as it is on gay bashing.

and you know what, politics is about market share. if there was not a market for this sh!t we would not be hearing it.

Rather than bothering to explain why it is that so many homeowners have stopped paying their mortgages in the past couple of years, a WSJ columnist instead wonders why so many distressed homeowners continue to pay their mortgages. Why aren't more people defaulting? The arguments for default, strategic or otherwise, are easier and easier to make in today's amoral business environment:
We live, alas, in a world, and an economy, which rewards ruthless self-interest and penalizes "morality." Just look at the big banks.

A mortgage isn't a blood oath, it's a business contract--a collateralized loan. It isn't simply a promise to repay the lender. It's a promise to repay the lender or to forfeit the home. Isn't someone simply fulfilling their contract by handing over the keys when asked?

Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, speaking in California, called Paladino's rants "highly offensive" and called on him to apologize, Politico.com reported.

This hits the nail on the head:

State Sen. Tom Duane, a Manhattan Democrat and the only openly gay senator, said Paladino - who has a 10-year-old love child from an extramarital affair - is the last person who should be lecturing on morals.
"I don't think someone who is living a polygamist lifestyle should be the arbiter of what makes a family," Duane said.
