Saturday College Football Open Thread

For the second straight week last Saturday, like my Gators, I crashed and burned with my college picks, going 7-10-1, and falling to 42-45 for the season. Like the Gators, my season can still be a success. So here are this week's picks:

Ohio State (-4.5) over Wisconsin. No state that considers dumping Russ Feingold deserves a win in this type of game. That is also why the Packers are falling apart. Repent! Wisconsin.

Mich St. (-7) over Illinois. Usually this is a game Mich State loses, the one after a big win. Something feels different in Lansing to me. Let me put it this way - it's a shame Ohio State and Michigan State don;t play each other this year. More . . .

Missouri (-3.5) over Texas A&M in College Station. Missouri has the look of a team that will win games against teams on the same talent level. A&M and Mizzou are on the same level. The Tigers win. (Talk to me later about beating Oklahoma.)

Army (+7) over Rutgers; Cal (+3) over USC; Nebraska (-10) over Texas; Iowa (-3.5) over Michigan; Arkansas (+4) over Auburn; TCU (-29) over BYU; South Carolina (-5) over Kentucky; Miss State (+9) over Florida; Ole Miss (+21) over Alabama; Ore State (+2) over Washington; Nevada (-7) over Hawaii.

I'm riding Chelsea again today in the EPL.

Go Gators!

..and any team/owner that lets George W. Bush anywhere near the owners box deserves to lose.  The look on the faces of Shrub and Nolan at the end of that game was priceless.

I take the match-up of the Freak v. Doc Halliday any old day.  Now that should be something to see.  And none of that unAmerican designated hitter crap.

Are you home?  I'm fired up and ready to go for the big game in the Big House (too bad I'll be out golfing).  Go Hawks!!!

I don't usually jump into your sports diaries, but you've politicized this one.

We've ELECTED Russ to the Senate 3 times, and have not dumped him. This ain't over. Down 4, but e've got the ball, now past the 50 yard line with nearly 2 minutes on the clock, and the ground game is making big yards on every play.

The differences between THIS league and College Football

There's no time outs, and the clock runs after an out of bounds pass.

The refs can't stop play. Any penalties are assessed after the game is over.

    Auburn - Arkansas... (none / 0) (#1)

I'm thinking the line is about right. It's going to be close. Last-second field goal again? This is the game that lets us know if AU is 'for real.'

I'm supposed to go to a watch party. I may not, because it will probably be a volatile game, not fun for a fan to watch with folks that aren't big AU fans.

I don't think Mississippi beats the line. Saban will explode if there's any sort of letdown this week. He's been steaming, and all accounts here in the state say that he's been 'motivating' his players.

at the interest this year in Missouri football.  It was, iirc, beneath your notice in other years.

At least it isn't jinxing the Tigers.

Tigers 30 - 9 over Texas A&M. Of course, there would be parties there night regardless of the score of the football game.

to UDub 35-34 in OT. Not sure going for the 2-point conversion was the right call, especially since it didn't work. Oh well, makes things better for the Ducks in terms of rankings.

    Too bad, Beavs.
