The Phone Banking Call Voters Love to Receive

Update: The Women’s Marijuana Movement and Just Say Now today launched an online phone banking tool for women marijuana activists from across the country to place phone calls to women voters in California, a key demographic to turn out for Proposition 19.

"If Prop 19 is going to pass in California, it needs the votes of women and mothers,” said Jeralyn Merritt, a criminal defense attorney and board member of Just Say Now. “Prop 19 is the safe, smart choice for California communities. Thanks to this new organizing tool, women marijuana activists can speak directly with women voters in California about the benefits of Prop 19 and get out the vote. This is a great way to empower women voters and let them know their votes not only count, but can make a real difference on a critical issue facing California communities.”

Jane at Firedoglake reports the Just Say Now phone bank operation (sign up here) is experiencing something unique: voters love getting the calls. [More...]

[W]hen Michael Whitney was at the Prop 19 headquarters last weekend phone banking with our friends from Students for Sensible Drug Policy, people started CHEERING when the callers said they were from Prop 19. If nobody was home and they left a message, people were calling back and thanking them

If you'd like to join the phone banking effort in one of the four states with marijuana reform on the ballot, here's a video showing how easy it is. Arizona, Oregon and South Dakota have medical marijuana initiatives, while California has Prop 19 to legalize small amounts of marijuana for personal adult use.

showing Boxer and Brown leads have a fascinating analysis.

Basically, the most enthusiastic voters in California are Democrats--because they want to vote for Prop 19.

And, more interesting yet, it is the pro-Prop 19 votes that puts Boxer over the top.  So, every vote you get for Prop 19 is a vote (of perhaps an otherwise disterested voter) for Boxer.

And, "playing to the base" can and does win elections....

Finally, it is good to have a cultural wedge issue as an Intiative that helps the liberals...

niece that i'm going to try pushing direction on voting to. sis and mom, no prob on 19 i believe. i'm the only one that has a ballot in already, so i'm going to do my best to make sure the prop 19 yes translates into a Boxer/Brown vote :) Arnie just line item vetoed (correct term?) child care support in the new budget, which my niece needs, so i think Meg may loose points there.

I must say, it was "fun" to vote yes on prop 19 :) and when i told my mom i could grow my own and it would be cheaper than wine, she responded that i could get the munchies and gain weight (a good thing when you're my size!).

it just stinks that i'm back in CA and Carly and Meg have  chance . . . . but Yes on 19 does have it's props :)

Boxer sh*ts on Prop 19, yet gets to reap the benefits of the public's support of Prop 19.

    What a business.

We have advisory Medical Marijuana referenda on the ballot in Dane County (Madison plus suburbs,) and River falls, a smaller UW campus near Minneapolis.

    Advantage Feingold.
