DWTS: Vote for the Best Dancers, Jennifer or Kyle

Update: The Washington Post and ABC News conducted a poll. Results; Majority said Bristol Palin is still on DWTS because of "large-scale voting" by fans of her mother.

The poll was conducted among a random national sample of 514 adults, and interviews were conducted on conventional phones and cellphones. The results have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.

****

DWTS says we shouldn't complain if we don't bother to vote. So I voted by text. I voted for the best dancers. Jennifer Grey knocked the socks off the competition. Kyle Massey was terrific and a solid second. Here's the numbers: [More...]

Jennifer and Derek
800-868-3411
800-VOTE4-11

Kyle and Lacey:
800-868-3403
800-VOTE4-03

AT&T users can text: up to five times, and yes, they are counting.

  • 3411, put "vote" in the message box, for Jennfer Grey and Derek
  • 3403, put "vote in the message box, for Kyle Massey and Lacy.

If Ms. Log to Broom wins tomorrow, there's no explanation other than a campaign to game the system. Not only wsan't Bristol Palin in the same league as her competition, she wasn't in the ballpark. [More...]

The judges' scores:

  • Jennifer and Derek: A perfect 60
  • Kyle and Lacey: close at 56
  • Bristol and Mark: 52

The couple in last place more than any other all season does not deserve to win.

If you absolutely hate the vile corruption of TV entertainment that is "(Not really based at all in) Reality Shows" then please, PLEASE vote for Bristol Palin.

At least the old "Battle of the Network Stars" (very corny, silly, but moderately fun to watch concept) used actual actors/actresses from network shows.  This show stretches the truth like every other reality show (contestants are selected because they're likely to provoke ratings, regardless of the stated rationale, and then placed in absurd unrealistic circumstances).

Ever since the Writer's Strike helped get Survivor on the air, it's been downhill.

    I don't agree the industry is corrupt (5.00 / 1) (#2)

and please do not shill for Palin here. I happen to like TV, especially reality shows, which is why I write about it.

by Left of the Left on Mon Nov 22, 2010 at 10:52:08 PM EST
be gaming the system? the system allows for more than one vote, if she logs the most votes she wins. She has no leg up on the other contestants, actually she's only celeb by association, and her mom isn't exactly popular.

Yes her supporters believe they've found a way to vote more than the times allowed, but ABC says they have controls in place for that. If its tied to IP, they could vote all day long, it only gets counted as much as everyone else.

If she wins she just had a better GOTV operation.

activist site for S.P. said they voted as many as 300 times in one night. The site encourages such behavior and tells its readers the email addresses don't require validation. That's gaming the system.

a partisan topic? I know people take sides in entertainment and sports. Are those 'sides' the same thing as politics and partisan argument?

Perhaps it is, in historic declining political/state entities. The contests in the late Roman Empire were important to the citizens/partisans in Rome. Are those Roman contests harmonically reflected in present day reality show contests? Are you arguing that entertainment contests are a proxy... more than that... are real partisan argument in this time and nation?

Maybe you are talking about a site Hillbuzz, which is not really a republican site but rather an insane one. That guy is truly possessed, and has a bit of power for the moment....seemingly.

but if ABC is correct then they haven't gamed the system. At most some attempted to, but failed. Do you have any evidence to show that ABC is lying when it says there are safeguards in place?

What evidence is there to show that ABC is lying?

After you vote online they advertise a way to vote again suing a different account.  You just sign out and then sign in with another screen name and password. Again, they advertise this so that more than one person in a family or business can vote on the same computer.

So if that is the case how can they stop people from making up fake or temporary e-mails and voting?  They can't.

I am able to vote from the same computer using my work e-mail, my home e-mail, and my secondary home e=mail, and my husband's work e-mail. I receive e-mails and promos from ABC at 3 of those sites so I assume the vote are being recorded.

any proof they're lying? If votes are limited by IP and the email is only required in order to build up the mailing list, none of that means anything, does it?

they said they have the capability (none / 0) (#13)
by Jeralyn on Tue Nov 23, 2010 at 01:42:01 PM EST
of doing it. They haven't identified the company who is doing the checking or if anyone is checking.

Multiple people have said they voted 300 times, 40 times, etc. They allow 5 votes per email account. There's no validation of email accounts. By keeping online voting open until 11 am the following day, they asked for this.

I received a registration from them today for an account someone opened last night using my first name with some letters after it "at-talkleft-com". There is no such email address but mail to "at talkleft.com" gets sent here. I immediately deactivated the account through thte link provided and then tried to trace the ip address but it's private and blocked. So someone  got away with opening a fictitious account using my first name and talkleft last night, and they probably voted five times. Since email validation isn't required, they could vote as soon as they put in something that sounds like an email address.

because I simply must not be explaining myself clearly enough. It doesn't matter how many times one votes, what matters is how many of those votes are counted. Clearly one could vote numerous times with fake emails, that does not mean those votes are counted. Being told of this, ABC has said they have a system in place to protect the voting, and make sure it's fair.

You have not demonstrated that ABC is wrong or lying when it says the voting cannot be tampered with. I don't care how many people you can find saying they voted X amount of times. There is no proof any of those thousands of over votes have actually been counted.

by Jeralyn on Tue Nov 23, 2010 at 07:49:33 PM EST
last week's final were the highest in its history. So clearly those votes are being counted. They also haven't said they discounted any votes. Only that they had some unspecified mechanism in place.

Enough. We'll just have to disagree.

are their highest ratings also. If the vote numbers where the highest ever, but ratings were flat that would be some proof. But higher votes along with higher ratings makes perfect sense.

I tried to call for weeks to vote. Lines are always busy. I don't text but this voting system is for the birds.

There is not going to be continued interest in a show that allows this kind of stuff.

Bristol is a klutz. Nice girl, but cannot move. Robo calls from Tea Partiers is not what DWTS should be all about.

web page may have been excessively busy....no idea why....people trying to make sure their celebrity got a flood of votes, I suppose. I voted for Jennifer, which I've done every episode I bothered to vote in.

Kyle is no dancer. The contest is between Jennifer and Bristol. One for dancing, and one for [fill in the blank].

    I think Kyle is a good dancer (none / 0) (#14)

and he's got musicality and he's a charismatic performer. All valid  reasons to vote for him. I suspect he'll come in 2d. I think the gig is up for fans of S.P. who voted for Bristol.

I still haven't figured out who he is or why he's called a star. Is he from another reality show? I thought his talent was beneath at least 6 of the other contestants, so he clearly has a fan base from something he's done.
