Countdown to DWTS: Huge Numbers For America's Least Talented Daughter

Here's the latest on DWTS. The two hour finale starts at 8:00 p.m. MT. Last night's show brought in the biggest numbers yet: 23.7 million views. It beat the football games both Sunday and Monday nights. And almost half of the viewers were women over 50.

The “Dancing” hosts labeled this edition of the show as the most controversial in its history, referring to an outcry among some viewers at Ms. Palin’s continued survival, thanks to support by viewer votes. ...almost half the audience for the show consisted of women over 50. The median age for “Dancing” was 56.9, the oldest for any show on the networks Monday night.

To make tonight's final winner even more unpredictable, ABC's voting system got overwhelmed last night, with people getting busy signals. ABC put out this statement:

"Dancing" producers said Tuesday that "a record amount of activity" overloaded its online and telephone voting systems after Monday's episode.

"Some viewers reported experiencing difficulties registering their votes for the Dancing with the Stars finale, which affected each finalist equally," show producers said in a statement. "The issue was promptly addressed" and voting times were not extended.

If people couldn't get through, how could ABC know who those votes would have gone to, and say it affected all three contestants equally?

Even though only the judges vote on tonight's performance, their votes will be combined with their scores from last night and only account for 50% of the total vote. So viewer votes from last night still count for 50% of the total.

Sarah Palin will be attending. (Did you think she'd miss an opportunity to be viewed by 23 million people? Ratings for her TV show tanked this week.) According to TMZ, the staff is "preparing for her arrival." Why does she get special treatment over the other contestants' family members? Why are any preparations necessary for her arrival? She's not even an elected official. [Correction: TMZ was wrong. Sarah Palin jumped ship and went to Phoenix for a book signing.]

Last question: If Bristol wins the trophy tonight, will she have the decency to turn it down?(Of course not, but hopefully she will be humiliated and embarrassed by accepting an award she clearly knows she doesn't deserve.)

And no, Bristol didn't show the most improvement over the season. Kyle did. And he has more talent and musicality in his tush than Ms. Broom to Mop has in her whole body. Her only movable parts are her shoulders, and her one move, the shoulder shimmy, got old in week three.

I'll be back with a live thread for the finale.

really sucks being on the left coast for TV.

I thought Bristol blew it last night referring more than once to people as "haters" who did not think she should be there. Wonder where she got that . . . .? So much for personal growth . . . .

I say, give Joel Grey special treatment!!

what time does it start on the west coast? (none / 0) (#2)

I don't want spoilers either. It starts an hour earlier on the east coast than here. It's 9 pm ET, 8 pm MT (don't know about Central or Pacific.) Let me know about the West Coast (and any other time zones other readers are in) and we'll see what we can do.  No promises, but if it's not going to be spoiler free, I'll put that at the top.

wish it started at 8 (thought it did). Since it's not over until 11PM here, I guess I really don't care about spoilers, lol!~

Lacey have been my favorite characters since the beginning. I like the attitude and the give 'em hell disposition they bring to the show.
I have no investment and could care less who wins the popularity contest, but I'm pretty sure whoever wins, I got my moneys worth.

how much money I have spent to go see my daughter's work. Of course Sarah Palin will be there.

but she should definitely take third place.

In any case, I can't help feeling sorry for her.

If people couldn't get through, how could ABC know who those votes would have gone to, and say it affected all three contestants equally?

Because there's no set voting time block for the contestants. Is one teams fans more or less likely to vote at different times than the others?

phone voting is only open (none / 0) (#10)

during the show and for 30 minutes after. It's internet voting that's open until 11 am the next day.
