In my view, she should move on, but not to make way for the likes of Steny Hoyer. Jim Clyburn, whom I do not respect for reasons not worth rehashing, is probably even worse. We need a pugnacious leader, not one who will go along to get along.
Thoughts?
For San Francisco residents: who might run to replace Pelosi?
Under the circumstances, the committee did the best it could--which was not much. Parent
I'd be fine with her sticking around - but she probably can't. Parent
I guess she could step down from the leadership; serve out this next term; then retire from politics. I don't know.
Honestly, I don't see any good possibilities for Dem. leader. No to Hoyer. No to Clyburn. No to Van Hollen.
Given that it appears the Senate Dems are going to make the disastrous decision to keep Reid as Majority Leader, I'd like to see a strong liberal voice as the leader in the House. Also, a fighter who both can and will battle the horrific policies that are sure to come from the Repubs. (and, sadly, the WH). I just don't know who that would be if not Pelosi.
We need that voice somewhere in the Party, and it is clearly not going to come from either the Senate or the Oval Office. The House is all we've got. Parent
No sense sticking around otherwise. Parent
Shuler not just one who will go along to get along he is in full agreement with the conservative agenda. Parent
There will likely be fewer women in Congress for the first time since the 1970s, said Debbie Walsh, director of the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University. "This year is the first time that it has gone down, it's gone down a little bit, but going down or staying the same if you care about women's participation in politics," she said. Women make up a mere 17 percent of Congress now. . . .

But after what we saw in 2008, I am amazed at how many women still are willing to enter the world of "bros before hos" at all. Parent
He says was referring to a K-9 drug sniffin' dog who was late to arrive at a traffic stop during his drug-dealing days, saving Jay-Z a long stint in the clink...hence "99 problems but a b*tch ain't one". Parent

No random acts of kindness by others required though, I'm a wiley veteran, I had E.J.'s that were not discovered in the vigorous pat down, so it coulda been a lot worse:)
I will be avoiding the Best Buy Theater for all but can't miss acts, I'll can tell ya that much...f*ck that place, no respect for the customers. One of my cohorts said I should write to the Crowes for reimbursement. Parent
From the article:
AARP officials said medical inflation is the main reason employee costs will be going up. The health care law is "a small part," said David Certner, legislative affairs director.

Is there anything sexier than a man with a French accent? I think not.

What's interesting is who voted for the Republicans and why. Independent voters, white working-class voters, seniors, and men broke heavily against the Democrats due to the economy. Turnout levels were also unusually low among young and minority voters and unusually high among groups that lear right, contributing to a midterm electorate that was extremely favorable to Republican candidates.
Not there's much new in terms of reasons, the numbers were interesting however.
Comeback: How did Harry Reid do it?
Even though Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) still has five months to go before he releases his next movie, Sucker Punch, it seems all anyone wants to talk about is his follow up. That's bound to happen, though, when you'll be helming a reboot of Superman written by David Goyer and produced by Christopher Nolan. Since the announcement, Snyder has been taking the Nolan route in talking about the film, speaking in grandiose, unspecific statements. But still, when the director of one of the most anticipated films of the upcoming decade talks about it, you listen and dissect. We'll do just that after the break and refute at least one "confirmed" fact.
(pfft, I will have what she is having)
Conservatives talked a lot about Ronald Reagan this year, but they have to take him more to heart, because his example here is a guide. All this seemed lost last week on Sarah Palin, who called him, on Fox, "an actor." She was defending her form of policical celebrity--reality show, "Dancing With the Stars," etc. This is how she did it: "Wasn't Ronald Reagan an actor? Wasn't he in 'Bedtime for Bonzo,' Bozo, something? Ronald Reagan was an actor." Ronald Reagan was an artist who willed himself into leadership as president of a major American labor union - blah blah blah - Then he was elected president. The point is not "He was a great man and you are a nincompoop," though that is true. The point is that Reagan's career is a guide, not only for the tea party but for all in politics. He brought his fully mature, fully seasoned self into politics with him. He wasn't in search of a life when he ran for office, and he wasn't in search of fame; he'd already lived a life, he was already well known, he'd accomplished things in the world. Here is an old tradition badly in need of return: You have to earn your way into politics.

I'm not buying the autopsy or the obituary. In the national exit poll, voters were split on health care. Unemployment is at nearly 10 percent. Democrats lost a lot of seats that were never really theirs, and those who voted against the bill lost at a higher rate than did those who voted for it. But if health care did cost the party its majority, so what? The bill was more important than the election.
