The Dishonest Third Way

Markos takes apart the dishonest Third Way:

[Third Way]: [T]he liberal cognoscenti who dominate the Democratic Party have proclaimed that Tuesday’s debacle was caused by President Barack Obama and a Congress that didn’t move far enough left. If this argument prevails, it’s Mondale-vile for Democrats for a long time. Returns show, once again, that the voters who drive elections are self-identified moderates and independents, and largely middle class. They ran for the hills this cycle.

Let's see the exit polls. The crazy liberals in the House scared moderates into ... voting Democratic 55-42. Double digits. And as for those independents?

PPP asked independents who did vote in 2010 who they had supported in 2008. The results: Fifty one percent of independents who voted this time supported McCain last time, versus only 42 percent who backed Obama last time. In 2008, Obama won indies by eight percent.

(Emphasis supplied.) The biggest problem with The Third Way is not that they are wrong, it is that they are liars. I do not want them in my Big Tent.

Speaking for me only

Bowers at Kos is wanting people to.... (5.00 / 1) (#3)

sign a petition in support of Pelosi.  Control of Democratic leadership by a progressive when the Blue Dogs are out for her scalp seems pretty important, so it wouldn't hurt if anyone here went over and signed that.

Is he running other petitions elsewhere? (5.00 / 1) (#10)

I'm VERY unwilling to sign something that says "We of the Kos community."  I'm definitely not of the "Kos community" and don't want to add my name to a petition with their name on it, even when I agree with it.

it would take the to turn whoever got the position into the new Nancy.

answer, about 1 24 hour news cycle.
she is a great behind the scenes actor.  she is better than in the speaker role.

she's running without counting the votes first. She's pretty confident she's going to win it. The question is does this help or hurt the Democrats' cause?

horrified about hearing that Heath Shuler wants the job as everyone else was.

I may not always like the way Pelosi handles things, but I do know that she is a Democrat born-and-bred in the Baltimore Democratic machine, and there is no way she would step aside for faux-Dem Shuler.

I suspect Shuler would be as bad at being minority leader as he was at being a QB...

TPM says Pelosi and Clyburn trying to squeeze Hoyer out of leadership now that Hoyer's blue dogs were kicked to the curb.

Sounds like there are enough Dems in the House to refudiate the Third Way approach, at least in terms of choosing their leadership.

    A Wakeup call about Independents (none / 0) (#16)
by Madeline on Fri Nov 05, 2010 at 04:43:17 PM EST
Not to disparage anyone who is an Independent but I just don't get who they are or what they believe in. From my own experience, it was switching to find a way to relieve some anger directed at the Democrats at the close of the 2008 primary.

Almost every article written in the last three days has been about what Independents said, did, went, voted for. we have been presented with every reason, rationale about Independents except what they ate. Well, there was some observance that they were beer drinkers, at least those in Wisconsin.

It seems they are day to day voters: Today what they hate or disapprove of could be love tomorrow. A fickle bunch if you ask me.

So why do they take every election hostage? Why does the mysterious and elusive Independent rule the election?  Not what's good for the country but what is good for the Independents?

do not deny me my fun!  Finally, I really matter to the Dems.  I am wooed!

Of course, now that there are more Independents in Wisconsin than there are Democrats, that could change.  Now, the Democratic rank-and-file may find that they're treated well, too.  That would be good.
