Here's the video ad for A Robin Hood Tax:
An unprecedented coalition of domestic charities, aid agencies, unions, faith organisations and green groups is calling on the leaders of the UK's political parties to support a global tax on the banks to help repair the human damage caused by the global economic crisis, protect public services at home, fight poverty abroad and help foot the bill for climate change.

A journalist once told Nighy that he's the "thinking woman's man" and he said he'd rather be thought of as the "drinking woman's man".

Republican chances of taking over the House in the midterms are overstated. As proof, they are citing the retirement of a 76 year old Republican.

You see, we can win this seat because the Republican only got 61% in the heavily Democratic year of 08. We're sure to do much, much better in '10.

down here for these rebels.  I've only seen one pair of flip flops in the last month around here.  I'm walking around with a pleased smile on my face and a lined windbreaker though chanting die mold die, die evil huge bugs die. I almost thought Born had stopped making shoes until I got to Colorado....Borns all over.  Ran and bought a pair.  Still don't know why the rural South tries to live in flip flops every day.  The underbrush and everything that lives in it around here is not flip flop friendly.

I am so excited about the death of palmetto bugs.  It's been a great few months for that reason alone.  But just like the robins they are back too.

It has been on the whole pretty cold though.  One funny story about my Southern roommate...  I made an offhand comment that we wouldn't have to worry with a little snow coming, you could just scrape it off.  She said "I don't own an ice scraper."  And I said "AHA!  We Yankees can teach you a thing or two yet."  I have suffered many lessons on etiquette and whatnot from her.

And they talked me into a pair of those shape up Sketchers for $99, which is a deal too.  I put them on and they are very comfy but reminding me of skate boarding.....which I was terrible at.  They allow your foot to roll all over and that challenges just about the core of everthing.  My Aunt thought it would be too fatiguing to wear them running through DIA and Atlanta but I decided to at least try.  Did great.  And I can't believe the service that Frontier provided us and other physically challenged people at both Atlanta and DIA. They've earned a new loyalty from me.  I originally chose to fly them because they were leaving Atlanta at a time that was good for us and it was one way to DIA landing at also a good time for us to make that drive.  I'm hooked now until they prove themselves unworthy of the loyalty.  Man they moved people at DIA who were challenged, radios going....large numbers of people employed to do nothing but that during peak arrivals and departures and you barely had to ask.

she does not have them but is considering it. Many of her friends do and they are all around 60.  They had to start wearing them a few hours at a time at first because they can fatigue you.  I have been wearing them every other day but I can go the whole day and I forget that I have them on.  They feel really good, and they were challenging at first.  They seem to me to be very "core" strengthening because the sole does not steady you easily, you must balance yourself throughout all of your stride.  I did talk to a woman about them at DIA and she had a knee problem that it was causing to flare up and I could see how they could easily do that.  I have been very fortunate though and have never had any big knee or ankle problems so I haven't experienced any pains.  Wow does the sole ever have a ton of cushion though.

But House Democratic leadership aides tell POLITICO they are growing increasingly worried over the lack of a detailed White House road map for passing a repeal -- and that without such a road map, repeal will end up in the same kind of Senate gridlock that hobbled health reform.

And hopes that Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) would galvanize moderates in both parties to the cause by introducing the repeal bill have yet to materialize despite months of negotiations between Lieberman and the White House, according to people familiar with the situation.

"Not only did Obama toss [`don't ask, don't tell'] to a Congress that's preoccupied with the economy and the midterms -- he tossed it to perhaps the most dysfunctional Congress in the history of the country," said a senior aide to a Senate Democrat who has been pushing for repeal.

Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) cast the issue in the context of Obama's recent dual-track political approach of soothing liberals in his national messaging while stressing centrism inside the Beltway.

"There's frustration, and `don't ask, don't tell' is one small part of it," says Weiner. "The frustration has been that while the president has said the right things when he's on the road, he's emphasized bipartisanship and not [moved] towards issues of importance to the Democratic base when he comes back to Washington."

the new meme: Palin, secret genius! (none / 0) (#59)
by Capt Howdy on Thu Feb 11, 2010 at 09:39:39 AM EST
    and this is from HuffPo:

Addressing the Tea Party, Sarah Palin wrote three notes on her hand: "Energy, Taxes, Lift American Spirits." Why? She already had notes in front of her on the podium. Surely she could remember three simple themes. Why write notes on her hand?

Here's my take on why: she knew that they would be visible when she gave the speech. And she knew that she would be made fun of -- as so stupid that she needs to write notes on her hand. And that's one of her most effective tactics -- to be made fun of. It's an integral part of her strategy of standing in for hardworking, Middle Americans, derided by the condescending, know-it-all liberal elites.
