I baited the hook and dropped it in the water. It was swallowed hook, line and sinker, rod and reel, up to the elbow, in a piranha-like feeding frenzy. [. . .] They bit on the Larry Summers lure.

Before Larry Summers was an adviser to the president, he was the president of Harvard University, until one day he committed a cardinal sin. He offered an off-the-cuff conjecture that the reason women might be underrepresented in math and science at elite universities just might be because there is an “innate” difference between men and women. Whether there was even a grain of statistical, scientific or logical evidence to support such a statement was irrelevant.

(Emphasis supplied.) Heh. Yep, whether the then Harvard President's statements about why women were underrepresented in math and science fields was complete nonsense is irrelevant. This clown Mitchell deserves a show on Fox (Beck could not have done it better.) For his next column, I suggest he use the William Bennett lure. I'm sure he will crack himself up. My gawd, the man is the editor of a daily newspaper. What a disgrace.

Hardly a soul in official Washington doesn't know that National Economic Council Director Lawrence Summers can be very high maintenance. Brilliant, bullying, and packing an ego the size of the national debt....
Summers got walk-in privileges to Cabinet and other high-level meetings, for example, and he strode among the Cabinet officers who witnessed Obama's State of the Union address. In addition, the former Harvard University president sought a personal car and driver, which happens to be a privilege that the head of the nation's central bank enjoys. The chief of staff initially said yes, only to discover that that perk simply does not exist in the White House.
Well, not exactly. The president has his own car and driver. But he's not quite on Larry Summers' level.
This is inevitable. Elites like Summers have a terrible time grappling with the fact that lesser men than they are making huge sums of money while they toil for far less doing a more important job. When he gets dissed, he needs to be soothed somehow, and persuaded once again that he really is superior to all these other bozos in the room. Hence the demand for perks.

scientific evidence is sooooooo overrated particularly when discussing subjects like science.(rolling eyes) I'm always glad to see irony isn't dead.

You never hear an uproar about discrimination against men although they get into college at much lower rates than women do nowadays, have lower high school grades, and drop out more. But we have grand conferences about why there isn't "equality" for women in high-level abstract sciences.

is even more clueless in his "defense", than in his original bit of "satire". last i checked, a lure need not be baited, it is the bait. otherwise, what's the point? just throw out a hook with a worm on it.

this is the standard limbaugh/coulte/hannity/beck etc. "defense": "gee, i was just joking, don't you people have a sense of humor?"

i'd never heard of this guy, before his original column. i have now. this was his whole purpose, to raise his profile to a national level. next stop, FOX "News", as a highly paid contributor.
