Rielle Rehab Tour Chooses Oprah

The Rielle Hunter Rehab Tour continues. The next installment: Oprah Winfrey. When? May sweeps, of course. The misunderstood mistress, who no one cares about, who only talks about herself, has chosen Oprah Winfrey over Diane Sawyer and Barbra Walters to share the next tawdry installment. The up side: Oprah's on daytime, none of us with day jobs have to worry about watching.

worry. Even those of us who work out of their homes or don't have day jobs aren't going to watch either.

anybody who watches any news on any channel in the week following will be getting big doses of clips and "analysis" of her Oprah appearance.  It's inescapable.

I Tivo'd Ellen when my old friend was on it, but that is as far as I'm willing to go.

Oprah must not care about ratings (5.00 / 1) (#4)

during sweeps week this year. I think the media thinks this affair is bigger than the public does.

Does this story sell magazines? I've only noticed her on the cover of tabloids. My guess is that Elizabeth would still draw more interest than Hunter does.

I'm trying to think of a mistress who would pull in an audience...

First of all, the studio audience will be filled with Elizabeth Edwards fans who will be there to register their disapproval and dislike of Rielle, and millions more will be watching from home, hoping for a Christians v. Lions kind of atmosphere (how hateful will the audience be?).

This is perfect Oprah material, since I think she sees herself as "the" forum for those public figures with private lives that have made for messy problems; she is where people go to redeem themselves and get their public image out of the gutter.  I mean, if Oprah gives you her blessing, you're as good as healed, aren't you?

Will this be a healing or a hurting?  That alone will draw viewers.  Will it work for Hunter?  Who knows, but as long as she is more human than demon, it will be a plus for her; my guess is that it will be "Johnny" who ends up under the bus.

If she keeps the kid under wraps, and doesn't drag her out for sympathy points, that will also be a plus for her...

And do we really think Jeralyn won't be able to watch, lol?  (no disrespect to you, J, but since there will be media reaction, and you will likely want to report on that, the only way for you to be fair in your assessment is to watch it yourself!)

But, I am only projecting my own feelings about it. Can't think of a less interesting woman in the news than Miss Hunter.

I have no idea who will flock to the audience, so I'll trust your prediction. I have no idea what the draw to Oprah's program is. Since I watch literally nothing on NBC, I will be spared the trailers, as well :)

The triangle itself has no corner that justifies any media attention, IMHO. I have not heard one person in my entire circle of friends and acquaintences ever mention this trio.

Did Andrew Young's book sell in huge numbers?

Not an Oprah fan, myself; have even (5.00 / 1) (#10)

had to steel myself to put up with her narration of the new "Life" series on Discovery (although I am told that David Attenborough will narrate the DVD, so may wait for it).

But, she does have a huge fan base - you can bet that if she's having someone on her show, it will be a big draw; I'm sure they will promo the hell out of it to make sure!

No one in my circle talks about the whole mess, either - I think a lot of people just have scandal fatigue.  I'm sick of Tiger and his "problems" and don't give a flying fig about Charlie Sheen or the Bullock-James-Tattoo Woman marriage disaster, either.

Oh, well - it's all selling magazines and tabloids, though, so clearly, there's a market!

    Is 'rehab' the right word in Rielle's case? (5.00 / 2) (#6)

rehabilitate: to salvage, restore, recondition, reconstruct, refurbish.

She didn't have a public image before this. Exactly what is she salvaging? She is on more of an image creation tour.

on the other hand I don't want to hear from John Edwards and I am probably the only democrat in the country who never really like Elizabeth Edwards.
I am sick of all of them.  I thought it was weird when they ran on Elizabeth having "cancer that is more like diabetes than anything".yeah right.  Now I am just wishing they would go away.  There is another couple with political aspirations way out of proportion to his abilities and experience.  He basically started to run for President the minute he hit the senate.

    Tom Cruise (5.00 / 1) (#14)
by Inspector Gadget on Tue Apr 06, 2010 at 05:20:34 PM EST
The only way I can think Oprah will like the ratings this segment brings her is if John Edwards comes running out to surprise Miss Hunter, and jumps on the sofa declaring his love (the Tom Cruise most embarrassing moments segment). If they can show a trailer of that, she'll top the ratings.

    What cheater isn't creepy, btw?
